Description
A random mix of trades using ideas from elsewhere. Some were based on offers from other team. NJD goal is using tradable assets and cap space to build some prospect depth (instead of stockpiling picks or adding veterans). No A-listers in this prospect group, but all solid future role players.

NJD GIVES:
- Kyle Palmieri (RW)
- Will Butcher (LHD)
- Dmitri Kulikov (LHD)
- 2021 4th pick
- $5.5 million in cap space

NJD GETS
- Mattias Norlinder (LHD)
- Bode Wilde (RHD)
- Daniel Torgersson (LW)
- Johnny Beecher (LHC)
- 2021 1st pick (MTL)
- 2021 3rd pick (BOS)

Comments, thoughts, insults - post below
Transactions
1.
NJD
  1. Armia, Joel
  2. Norlinder, Mattias [Liste de réserve]
  3. Choix de 1e ronde en 2021 (MTL)
Détails additionnels:
Armia in here for salary reasons. Norlinder could be swapped with a number of guys (Poehling, Fleury, Primeau, Mete, Guhle, Caufield)
MTL
  1. Palmieri, Kyle (2 325 000 $ retained)
  2. Choix de 4e ronde en 2021 (NJD)
Détails additionnels:
Palmieri without extension, but with salary 50% retained. Ends up as $275,000 in savings for MTL. And adding late pick here that NJD could probably receive by flipping Armia.
2.
NJD
  1. Komarov, Leo
  2. Wilde, Bode
  3. Choix de 5e ronde en 2021 (NYI)
Détails additionnels:
Original offer was Leo and two picks, but am adding a prospect instead of one of the picks. Wilde would be first choice, but could also see Salo (or Bolduc with higher pick attached).
NYI
  1. Butcher, Will
Détails additionnels:
Will Butcher is still solid puck-moving middle pair LHD. Would probably play PP2 here. Maybe pair with Mayfield for 5v5. The biggest challenge for NYI may be having to leave him (or another d-man) exposed in expansion draft.
3.
NJD
  1. Perreault, Mathieu
  2. Torgersson, Daniel [Liste de réserve]
Détails additionnels:
Perreault is salary dump. Torgersson would be the target for this deal.
WPG
  1. Armia, Joel (1 300 000 $ retained)
Détails additionnels:
Armia flipped at 50% retained. Net salary savings for WPG would be $2,825,000 (annualized).
4.
NJD
  1. Beecher, John [Liste de réserve]
  2. Moore, John (750 000 $ retained)
  3. Choix de 3e ronde en 2021 (BOS)
Détails additionnels:
NJD takes Moore on small discount to be 7th or 8th d-man. And adds a b-level prospect.
BOS
  1. Kulikov, Dmitry
  2. Perreault, Mathieu (2 062 500 $ retained)
  3. Choix de 5e ronde en 2021 (NYI)
Détails additionnels:
Boston is getting a better LHD, a cheap short-term winger for bottom-six and long-term salary relief on Moore

MTL says no thanks. We're all se on RW. Palmieri will get a 1st, and a prospect but not a prospect of the level of Caufield, Guhle or Primeau.

Bruins are not trading Beecher for Kulikov.
A) not sure he is better than Moore
B) he is not better than Zboril or Lauzon.
C) The Bruins would have no need or desire for either player mentioned.

My input on each trade:

1) Not sure if you saw my post last night, but I put up a really similar offer (and if you did, thanks for sharing my idea. Not mad about it at all.) However, Montreal is in a situation where I believe Cale Fleury would be more likely to be moved than Mattias Norlinder. Norlinder is younger and has elite upside, and Fleury isn’t needed with someone like Josh Brook in the AHL, and with Weber and Petry in the NHL. I just don’t see Fleury ever getting the chance to make MTL. So, we’d rather send him. Otherwise, I like the offer!

2) This is a true Lou Lamoriello trade. He sends out some salary, and sends a prospect for a solid 2-way defender. Not much to say, as I really like this deal. Not sure how Islanders fans feel about trading Wilde, seeing as their defensive prospects aren’t as numerous, but they should be fine seeing what they have in the NHL.

3) Not much to say. Good deal. Maybe could get another pick IF Armia is guaranteed an extension in Winnipeg

4) Bruins don’t want to retain on Moore. If you take out the retention on him, this is a very considerable deal. But I also know that Beecher is a guy Boston doesn’t wanna move. Plus, I don’t believe Kulikov and a retention Perreault get you that package. Might have to take a less impressive prospect. Intriguing concept though

Boston has zero interest in any of that. Moore will be bought out next year. Not giving up anything to move him. Only way you get Beecher is with Palmieri with an extension. Even then it’s unlikely Beecher is involved.

I mean that BOS trade is just an abomination.

You call Perrault a cap dump and then turn around and try and flip him to Boston along with a d-men that wouldn't see the ice here and you want our #2 prospect and 3rd AND you want us to retain on Moore? You basically have Boston trading their #2 prospect for nothing, because neither guy you have going to Boston is bumping anyone out of spot.

Looking at a lot of these deals, you massively overvalue Devils players. Last year when NJD shopped Palms, they wanted a 1st round pick....seeing as he's still with NJD it safe to say no one was willing to give that up. Now a year later he's going to net a 1st + potentially some of MTL best young players?

If Bruins could get Palmieiri for Beecher, they would have done that last season. NJD wasnt looking for 1st for Palms, they were looking for A-prospect AND 1st for him. My understanding/recollection, the B's offer was something like Heinen, Bjork and 1st. NJD wanted more than Heinen/Bjork. And Beecher is ok prospect, but lets be honest here, his ceiling is bottom-six grinder. Boston just doesn't have any A-prospects in their system.

As for this deal, many of the Bruins posts on here were looking for LHD and bottom-six wingers, which appear to be holes, so I was just trying to meet demand.

The MTL trade was idea from Habs fan...I swapped out Mete for a prospect d-man and gave list of possible options (Norlinder just the name I used).

Take a look at the offers people are making for Palmieri on here....they often have prospect/1st. I do not think this price is unreasonable at all. Take Armia out if needed...I only added him to make salary work.

Beecher will likely be middle-six C. As of right now, I don't think the Bruins are "looking for" a LHD, they're still experiencing and evaluating their new defense. I do believe they will (need to) add a LHD but a top4 D, not a third pair D like Kulikov. Bottom-6 F, they probably get someone at the deadline in the $700Ks/$1.5M range. Assuming no injuries, they don't need anyone for their top9.

Except those posts are by other teams fans assuming what Boston needs. They are wrong. The LD is playing great and once healthy the 4th line will be just fine. If they add a LD it will be an LD1 not bottom pair type.

If you notice every post generated by a Boston fan has them trading for Hanifin, Lindholm, Ekholm etc. Every post by a non Boston fan has them sending 3rd pair garbage. Kuilikov, Nemeth, Kulak etc.

Unless it’s an upgrade for the top pair they are not doing it.

You are wrong as to Beecher’s ceiling, that’s his floor. His ceiling is 2nd line. And KP had more value last year when he had term, now that he’s a rental his value has dropped a bit.

Likely more than Foegele. A Canes fan last off-season suggested Bean, Niederrieter and a pick...and I thought that was strong offer at the time.

Got it. Thought they were looking for a cheap, bottom-pairing LHD rental type.

I don't know how many #1 LHD will become available this season (Seth Jones maybe, Hampus Lindolm). Those guys will cost prospects that don't exist in Boston's current pool. From NJD's perspective, Murray would be closest thing as they're not moving Smith. Next up would be Butcher.

Jones is a RD, not needed and way to costly. Hanifin, Ekholm, Dunn would be the most likely targets but i don’t think they do anything this year. Expansion draft creates a problem. Adding a 1st pair d likely means losing Grizz to Seattle. A 1st, a high end prospect coupled with the loss of Grizz is to high a cost to upgrade a unit that is playing very well.

From my understanding Boston gave NJD two offers to choose from. Heinen + 1st (both later moved to ANH) or Bjork + 2nd were what was on the table. Rumor is NJD wanted Bjork + 1st and Boston said no. Beecher is also more than an Ok prospect and to say his ceiling is a bottom-6 grinder tells me you have a clue about Beecher. He's projected as a middle-6 center that could be a two-way PWF if he ever decided to take more chances in the o-zone. At worst he projects to be a two-way 3C.

As for the "needs" and "holes" those aren't coming from knowledge Bruins fans or it was during the off-season. The defense has looked fantastic so far to start the year and is easily a top 3 defense looking at the metrics:

SA/60 - 1st
GA/60 - 3rd
xGA/60 - 1st
SCA/60 - 2nd
SCGA/60 - 3rd
HDCA/60 - 4th
HDGA/60 - 10th

The only real "need" for Boston is a legit 2RW like Palms.

(always get Jones and Werenski mixed up - never remember who is right and who is left)

So you're saying Boston may be in the market for cheap LHD rental? Or no? Because the expansion draft concern would lead me to believe they would want a rental.

Personally, I wouldn't pay current price on Dunn or Hanifin, but if you can get Ekholm, might be worth exposing Grz and hope you can work out deal with Seattle later.

Earlier, you said NJD wasn't offered a 1st. Now you say it was your team that offered the 1st. Regardless, I do remember reports that Devils GM was very high on Bjork, wanted a 1st and prospect...so that all jives. I had thought the offer was Bjork/Heinen together. But who knows.

I am of aware of Beecher.....been aware since his Sophomore year of High School. Never has been much offensively and many professional hockey observers agree that he likely a 4th liner. NJD probably has 12 young forwards or prospects that could be projected ahead of him anyway...so I am somewhat indifferent to him.

And if Boston doesn't need a d-man anyway, the whole thing is moot.
