Description
Assumes that one of the 6 who are out go on LTIR. I've chosen Toews as his appeared to be pretty serious, though Calvert could easily be out all year if it's concussion related and Bellemare's looked bad too. With some juggling, everybody can be fitted under the cap later. Not sure on what TOR would want for Campbell or if they'd risk going to Hutchinson as the backup. Would probably be worth throwing a prospect in as well though if it made it work. Edit: Added Kamenev as a 'placeholder' for a prospect as the Leafs gave up two thirds in the trade to acquire him, although there were other parts involved as well.

Donskoi has looked real good the last two games. Compher would be the one I'd try to move.

Ottawa would probably move either Tierney or the 2nd to acquire Graves, but not both. I doubt Ottawa would want Donskoi with their RW set.

I doubt Toronto trades Campbell, he’s very well regarded there, and Toronto is a favourite here, and will need him.

Understandable, however I still think JT fits the Avs style better, he's just being asked to do what he isn't. I think we all worked out long ago that he's no centreman. Not sure why the Avs persist with it. There's also the idea of trading Donskoi while his stock is higher. That said it's possible Tierney and Donskoi could have some chemistry already as they were at SJ at the same time, no idea how much they played together though.

Yeah, seems to be that some would, some wouldn't on this version of the trade for OTT, but I'd be happy enough to go one for one Graves for Tierney as well. The Campbell trade is really just a case of who I'd like to seem them take a shot at, even if they have to overpay a touch, but I agree TOR probably wouldn't go for it.

Donskoi's hot start aside, given the cap situation I'd guess that both Donskoi and Compher have negative values. Ottawa is allergic to paying money, in any case. I could see a Graves-for-Tierney swap.

They don't have negative value, that's silly.

Must admit I missed that part when I liked the comment, was more focused on the Graves-Tierney swap part. Yeah, to say their value may have been hit somewhat with the covid flat cap may be true but negative value is silly, they're certainly not cap dumps.

Since TO lost Dell, Campbell is absolutely not going anywhere.

At $1,000,000 retention Nemeth is easily worth a late 2nd round pick. He's been one of our most solid Dmen on the blueline.

I disagree with DenisPotvin, but I understand why he has his opinion.

Compher is a pedestrian 3C, making good 3C money, but he's not overpaid enough to be considered a negative value.
Donskoi is a weak 2nd line winger, making solid 2nd line winger money, but he's also not overpaid enough to be considered a negative value

Neither have much trade value during this flat cap, but they are definitely not negative values. They are both worth much more to Colorado than they are to other teams in a trade.

Donskoi's 45% shooting percentage is probably not sustainable

Avs can't really afford to trade a Dman right now with both Toews and Johnson out. I'd be onboard with a trade for a 3C though if we can find an adequate replacement LHD though.

I would say, for now, they're just going to have to rely on call-ups and see what transpires. The tough part is knowing how serious each injury is - all this "upper-body/lower-body" nonsense tells us nothing. I do agree with Richard88 that they can't really afford to lose a D-man. I was a bit surprised by the Cole trade but it makes sense with Byram being ready. They don't have anyone else coming in and will need the depth.

Donskoi IMO is really a very good third-liner. He's injury-prone and struggles massively against big, strong teams (meaning in the playoffs there are going to be times when he's a completely dead weight).

Plus, for both players, it isn't just the money, but the term. We're seeing UFAs signing incredible bargain deals in a flat-cap world. That's what you have to compare it to. I'd much rather have Haula over Compher (never mind at half the price) or Toffoli over Donskoi. There are a lot of players who can bring similar on-ice value at a *much* lower cost. I may be wrong, but it seems like Colorado would love the cap space way more than they would Compher or Donskoi.

I've been following your posts on here and I think you'd be a great addition to the GM Game here on CapFriendly. The game is basically a season long Arm-Chair team where you get to make trades, draft, etc. and we have a formal scoring system for playoffs. If you are interested and want to know more, just quote and reply to this post and I'll answer any questions you've got. We've got some openings for assistant GMs that would involve you helping GMs by offering input on all aspects of the game.
