Description
With the injury list on defense pilling up, I think we may need to make a small trade. Now here is what I am thinking....

Drew O'Connor was lights out good in last nights game.
-He fit in on the PP like a regular
-He is a physical big body
-He is young with potential to grow

So hear me out now...

I would expect O'Connor to become a full-time NHLer at some point in this season. With him jumping into the lineup, that leaves us with an excess of Forwards and the odd one out is....

Zach Aston-Reese

I am truly a big fan of Zach but with 3 seasons of playing on the Penguins he hasn't shown much in my eyes. 17 points being his highest point total is far from anything spectacular. (Please leave an explanation if you think I am wrong by saying this)

FINAL SUMMARY:

Now with all that being said, I believe that we trade Zach while he still has some value and he could potentially become a top 6 player that we all expected him to be if he gets a fresh start. I suggest we trade him for a strong top 6 or 7th dman.

Now the part that I need help with is what Dman would you guys suggest????? I gave 5 of my top guys but I would love to hear more ideas!

Here are my thoughts and please give me yours in the comments!

Thanks and keep it positive!

Montreal isn’t interested. We need Mete more than we need another forward. And he’s not actually available for trade, that’s just other GM’s speculation.

Yeah Zadorov in PITT would look great. Another physical player on the team who can play offense and D whenever needed.

The only thing I don’t agree with here is the description. Not sure if a paragraph of why zar isn’t good should be followed by a slew of trades for nhl Dmen.

ZAR would have trouble getting into the lineup in MN. I don't mind shipping Hunt out or anything, there just is not much reason to make the trade that adds (even that little bit of) cap to MN for another LHS wing.

How about Hunt and a gift wrapped Bjugstad (half retained) for ZAR? sarcasm

Canucks aren't interested, we don't need another depth forward.

Would the Penguins be interested in Gaudette and/or Virtanen?

I don't think ZAR is going to hold the trade value you think he is.
          A. the point totals, not that that alone defines a player.
          B. the injury history. That really knocks the value. But to be honest I don't think he's the guy to move because Sceviour really isn't a better player than ZAR.

I think the reason they took the keys from JR is because he wanted to trade. I don't think they are that interested in doing that. Not at any great expense.
          Which explains the FA signing.
I'm not overly worried about it at this point.
Honestly if they really had injury issues they could just be like ....oh look a COVID outbreak and get off the ice for a week.

We don't know what we got injury wise. no one as said. The hit to MP, I'm sorry that didn't look like it caused a major injury. Dumo, I don't know what happened there. He was already down when the puck shot. We don't know what's up with him.
So don't over react to what the position of the team is. We just don't know.
Losing Matheson and Riikola was no big deal. Just being honest.

I think we are going to see a bit of an internal struggle that JR lost here.
          A. they took his trade keys away.
          B. they are starting to play their younger players again, no more BS on that.
POJ will do as a 3rd pairing, like you see him play and you go wtf did we trade for Matheson. Horny was easier to move to seattle.
You see OConnor hit the ice and go, WTF did we sign and play people like ERod.

I have to think they are looking at the youth at RD right and going what else did he F up.
Guys may play out of position but I don't think that's going to stop them.
I'm also wondering if they are looking at Poulin.
Because we all damn well know when the season started we had him in there. There really wasn't much of an excuse as to why not now.
The kids sitting at home now, can't play games. They had nothing to lose. It's not like Sceviour is anything special.
If they bring in a Poulin they can move McCann to Center and Blueger down to 4th line and throw Jankowski to taxi squad.
I really think the lack of judgement on the youth and bad choices in trades and signings was the end for JR.

I agree with Pharrow, Graves is about to be the odd man out and frankly he is nothing special imo

Outside of Letang, your whole d-corp would be battling for a roster spot on the Avs, so...

Canucks aren't interested, we don't need another depth forward.

Would the Penguins be interested in Gaudette and/or Virtanen?

You know maybe later in the season, but at this point I would say defense is our main concern. I personally wouldn't mind Gaudette tho! Virtanen I'm not a huge fan of.

Zar doesn’t have anything close to that value. He’s. 4th liner and still injured

          Come on

I think the d-man PIT needs from MN is Soucy not Hunt.

Making a trade around Soucy (he shouldn't be too expensive) as the main piece coming back would make PIT's defense much better than Hunt (fringe NHLer) would.

Yes I definitely agree with you, its time to embrace our youth otherwise a tough rebuild will come fast. I wasn't necessarily saying that we needed to change everything, I just wanted to share the idea I had on ZAR, no panic or anything. Just figured that could be an option to look into. I really like your view on things tho! Nice to have a different perspective on the team! Thank you.
