nevermind, think im wrong.

OP should think about Kerfoot rather than Dermott from Toronto. He'd be your best center.

First buyout window isnt until after the expansion draft has occured. Your options are he waives or hes protected. Mind you I say 'your' options lightly, its his option not the teams.

no its not, there is a buyout window before teams have to submit their final lists for expansion, same rules as Vegas applies, look up the time lines of the Vegas draft

Do you really think one of the smartest front offices in the league with the avs didn't have indication that they will either have EJ waiver or worse case buy him out before the traded for Toews and extended him to a 4 year deal, as they traded for him while he was set for arbitration already. Not hard to see that they have a plan to protect their main guys on D in Girard Makar and Toews

Its not a very good plan if it costs 2 mil in cap space for the next 4 seasons. Theres still no incentive for EJ to waive when he could be getting paid by 2 contracts. Avalanche look like a 4/4/1 team.

if you think EJ is going to stick it to the avs, then you dont know EJ very well or Sakic as the GM.
there is always the option of having him waive and then paying an additional asset so hes not selected either. That was done last draft by teams as well

Not to very good results. Probably better off just losing one of those middle 6 players in a 4/4/1 scheme.

one of kadri or burakovsky would probably get snagged 4/4/1, its pick your poison unfortunately... and even if johnson waives theres still graves

the downside of building a superteam before an expansion draft ahaha

this is the avs year imo

EJ would need to waive, and im not too sold on that happening - but that works too

this team is stupidly deep, i hate it

Im more thinking if anyone is willing to work with the team its probably Landeskog, him being captain and it costing him nothing unlike EJ. If he just waits til the UFA period to sign a new deal, they can protect both Kadri and Burakovsky. They'll lose a middle 6 forward in a Donskoi, Compher or Nichuskin but as we can see it won't end up a big loss.

like I said, he waives or they buy him out as a last resort. Sakic doesnt do the Toews deal if they dont have a plan in place when they easily could have just signed a UFA dman if they wanted to load up for this season. They dont spend 2 2nds and extend him 4 years as a 1 year guy

no they have a deal ready to be signed once the cap is official for next season, they are not waiting for UFA to avoid expansion draft nonsense, thats an awful move letting your captain get close to UFA. Guys who get to it, dont come back.

How tf did they get Mangiapane? I worked it out, if he played first line minutes he'd have gotten 28 goals last year over 82 games. And that's with only PP2 time. And that PP2 has Lucic on it. And he plays on a shutdown line. He could be a 35 goal scorer with first line minutes, offensive linemates, PP1 time and some puck luck. That's not that much to ask, just having coach with competent player distribution. Our coach unfortunately can't do that

Tavares, Peitroaneglo, so on and so on...right false. They sure came back to their teams once they hit UFA. Only big name UFA who went to market and stayed was Stamkos, anyone who actually hit the market left that is a star.

So it doesn't happen then you yourself provided an example of it happening. Ok.

We can add to that list pretty easily if we even bother spending any time looking. Joe Thornton for example did it the summer of the Vegas Expansion.

it happened once...ONCE bc thats how rare it has been. When stars hit UFA me they do not come back besides the 1 rare occasion, sure thats what to focus on.....geez. You do not play games letting your captain get hours away from UFA.

Krug didn't come back even though Boston was trying to sign him
Panarin, Bob, Duchene didn't come back even though CBJ was trying to sign them
Hall didn't come back even though Coyotes were tying to sign him

see a trend here

Dear lord comparing Joe thornton when he is 38 years old and contemplating retirement every offseason....vs Landeskog at 28 years old, talk about not even coming close to a comparable situation of UFAs

A captain with a strong link to the team working with them to avoid having to use a protection slot to protect him. He's a perfect comparable.

its not even close, and if you cant see how that then this is done bc I am wasting my time discussing this. Its like if Matthews was a UFA going into this offseason and leafs were going to leave him unprotected.....not a guy at the end of their careers and coming off major injuries.

Have a good night bc there is no point continuing this since its obviously are not following along

If Matthews has a contract signed and sitting in the desk drawer, I'd be happy to work with him to the teams benefit. it would take a fool not to.

You are sending very mixed messages in this thread. On one hand you think the team and Landeskog are loyal enough to each other than they already have a contract done and are waiting for next years cap to finalize it. On the other hand you are saying you don't trust Landeskog enough to wait til free agency to finalize it. Which is it?
