Because Colorado is just getting started to contend. Letang is 33 and a UFA next year. Girard has been better this year so far and is locked in one of the best contracts in the league, and they'll need that contract in the near future .

It’s such a small sample size and Letang has had a much better last couple of games. I agree that AVS have no interest in this deal, but Pens have 0 incentive to make either. They downgrade and lose their #1D. Pens will be awful in the future regardless so we’ll keep our #1 guy for now

Letang is 33 with 2 years left on that deal. At the end of that contract his best value is coming on signing a team friendly deal with the hopes that he can still play at 35.
But honestly that is asking a lot.
I don't see any team giving up futures for him. Not unless they are in the middle of a cup run this year and next and have serious need for defensive help above the 3D level.

Not necessarily. You’ve gotta take into consideration that certain players will be more valuable to one team over the other. For example the pens would likely value a 3C higher than the rangers would since the rangers have a solid 3C and the pens are still...well questionable there. This thread for example, only maybe Calgary and Chicago would need a top 4 RD. So none of these other teams will value a top 4 RD as much as those two. And Chicago likely wouldn’t value a top 4 RD like Letang due to age, injury history, and that they are still a bit away from contending for a cup. So could probably get a lot more from Calgary, the rest wouldn’t be interested unless he came dirt cheap.

hes not worth Girard, at his age his ability to date and how unreal his contract is. You couldn't get him 1 for 1 especially in a flat cap era

check out the last few seasons how who among dmen are the leaders of controlled zone exits and entries. even as a rookie at 20 he was one of the leagues best. Its not a small sample size, Girard hs been good since he came into the league

I never said girard isn’t a good D, he is, but he’s not a #1D like Letang. Both teams pass. Pens get the worse player now and avs get the worse player in the future.

its not a discredit to Letang either, but like I said when you consider contact, flat cap, age....Avs wouldn't trade 1 for 1 especially considering Letang is RHD, no reason to get a guy that takes away from Makars ice time and pp time as well.

Avs dont need a 1D...they have one in the making with Makar and potentially another Top pairing guy in Byram. They are good waiting it out
