this is probably from a bad translation, considering wheeler just had an interview int he Winnipeg free press saying he felt like he coddled Laine too much and didn't push him.

"ltalehti (literally "Evening newspaper") is a tabloid newspaper published in Helsinki, Finland."

Gonna take a grain of salt on this one.

Nah, thats just the media for you. Yes Wheeler probably wanted the top line role but when you get that many points per season and have amazing chemistry with the top C, you play in that position. It is a bit frustrating that Laine didnt mesh with Scheifele like Wheeler did cuz Wheels is getting older and having a good winger to replace him would be good, it is what it is.

Basically Wheeler wanted the first line Rw position and wasn't happy that Laine could take his role.He was talking behind Laine's back and more. I don't think this is true but it is interesting to see what went wrong in Winnipeg

Article also said that Wheeler and Scheifele were putting sand in his skates and Maurice was too weak to stand up to them. Sounds more like a novel about high school.

Wheeler also said he regrets how he handled the relationship with Laine. I do think think this might be over exaggerating

The nerve that any other player playing the same position would want the top line RW!

Laine wanted top line minutes like Matthews and Dubois were getting. Can't blame the young man. Problem was that Winnipeg has several forwards that are better than him 5 on 5. He was given plenty of opportunity to find chemistry with Scheifele and didn't. It cost the Jets dearly to try to find a centre to work with Laine 5 on 5. Little, didn't work. Hayes, didn't work, Copp, didn't work, Stastny worked so the Jet's brought him back. He is a beast on the powerplay but has been difficult to mesh with linemates otherwise. After 4 seasons of playing with Connor, Scheifele, Wheeler, Ehlers and Stastny, he may second guess his "mistreatment" when reality hits and he is expected to create the offence in Columbus.

Love Wheeler but this franchise needs to stop trading for aging stars. Dumba needs to be traded for a similarly aged, preferably younger, top 6 center. Pass from me.

This site seems to be very anti-Laine for whatever reason, but I totally believe this report.

The Jets locker room has been concerning for years. The way guys like Byfuglien and Perreault talked about Evander Kane bordered on unprofessional and gave some insight into how things were definitely not good there... I know Evander can be polarizing to some but I don't think he's totally to blame for that.

Also look at how many good players have left the franchise in the last few years - Trouba, Byfuglien, Kane, Stastny, Hayes, Myers, now Laine and Roslovic. People always say it's because "no one wants to play in Winnipeg" but I disagree - I think a lot of players would love to play for a Canadian team, especially one that's consistently competitive and, until recently, looked like a Stanley Cup worthy team.

I would not doubt that there's a problem with leadership at all. And I wouldn't be surprised if Ehlers was the next one out the revolving door.

The Jets have drafted better than arguably any other franchise in the past decade, but they can't retain anyone despite being very competitive in recent playoffs. That's a culture problem, and apparently it comes from the top - the captain.

Laine is going to be a beast for Columbus or for any other team he may ultimately end up on if he doesn't sign there in the summer. I stand by Laine being the best player the Jets have had in the past decade. Let's not forget that he's only 23 - there's time to become an even more dominant player.

Oh, and lost in all of this is Jack Roslovic - why couldn't they sign him to that small contract? He's another one who may become a stud, and he's a center which is what the Jets supposedly needed.

I really liked Winnipeg's growth from inception (2011) through like 2018, but now I'm pretty low on them. I think it's impossible to deny there are big problems in that locker room that are holding them back. Weren't there recent rumors about affairs between Jets players and their teammates' girlfriends/wives?

Seems like there's something up there. Though I've been a bigger Winnipeg fan than Columbus fan (from afar), I look forward to rooting for Laine with the Jackets.

I wish Laine well in Columbus. Kane and Trouba are head case cancers and the Jets are better off without both of them. Have fun eating that contract NYR. Hayes and Stastny were both brought in as UFA trade deadline rentals. Signed for higher amounts than the Jets were willing to pay. Good for them. Myers also signed with Vancouver for more than he is worth. Good for him. Byfuglien lost the will to play. Considering he didn't sign with anyone else, that might not be a Winnipeg issue. Roslovic could see the writing on the wall in Winnipeg. With the trade for Stastny and the drafting of Perfetti, he was never going to crack the top 6. Wanted a shot at top 6 minutes and Chevy granted him his wish. I would have preferred he sit for the year and Winnipeg had offered him up to Seattle. Chevy is nicer than me.

To me the biggest problem with the Jets is that they set themselves up to be a "draft-and-develop" team but they have a coach that loves playing his wily veterans. The development of Heinola, Samberg, Niku, Stanley, Vesalainen, and Gustafsson has been delayed by the acquisitions of Sbisa, Forbort, Bitetto, Thompson, Lewis, Bourque, Shaw, and Shore. Paul Maurice doesn't let his young prospects learn from their mistakes in the NHL.

Wheeler is a clown, Schiefele is a whiner and the coach enables it.

Also too funny that anyone thinks Schiefele is good 5v5, he's terrible and lazy inside the Jets blueline, laughable that he talks about being mentioned along side the likes of Matthews, McDavid, etc.

Honestly it's so obvious what happened, Laine was drafted and instantly became the biggest star this team had and the two whiny babies that wear a C and A couldn't stand that it wasn't them and forced him out, just utterly fu*king pathetic!

That’s exactly where u should stop taking the article seriously.. the last impression I get from Wheeler and Scheif is that their childish....... u don’t become a leader of a team by acting like a kid

Reporter’s just ranting

I don't think they meant that they literally put sand in his skates. Maybe I just find that a little too ridiculous to believe it was an actual claim, but I think that was more metaphorical than anything.

To me, "Outside the rink, Wheeler and Scheifele threw sand at Laine's skates in every possible way" doesn't sound like an actual accusation of throwing sand in someone's skates Especially since they seem to talk about how Wheeler was a "master" at talking behind his back

I will admit I did not read the actual article and instead a screenshot of it, so my information may be incorrect. I'll have to look at it later
