Why is it needed? It is probably going to happen, but I think he'll be traded for a forward, since the leafs are rumoured to want some help up front.

he's being kept as SEA fodder. Thats where hes headed. Once he leaves, Bogo will leave this offseason leaving the bottom pair to be Sandin-Lehtonen/Liljegren

Trading Dermott for a pick does not help the Leafs. Perhaps a change of scenery trade will be what works. Otherwise the leafs hang on until Seattle draft.

More silly talk. Obviously Dermot is a top 6 Dman, otherwise he wouldn't be in the lineup. To put the the unknown Lehtonen in the lineup and "hope" is better is not a good plan at all.

Leafs win 5 of 7 games to start the season (with no pre-season). ACGMs be like "Dermott trade needed!!!!"
What a terrible position to be in to have a 24 year on your third d pairing!

I'm not sure what the argument for saying a trade is needed but I strongly disagree. Dermott is still getting better and he's on a super team friendly deal for this year. I don't know why some Leafs fans are so quick to want to trade away some players. Having organizational depth is very critical to having success over an entire season and playoffs. As long as we can stay under the cap and not senselessly expose our fringe players to waivers, trade no one. Stay the course, let's see what this team can be.

*Every year since my birth*

"Toronto needs defensive depth! Marincin (or any other plug prior to him) should never get close to drawing it, injuries or not!"

*This season*

"We've got Sandin, Lehtonen and Liljegren just waiting there we need to trade Dermott!!!"

Last year we had 3 of our top 4 defence out for an extended period of time. This year we actually have decent depth in case of injury. Half of leaf fans on here. "LETS TRADE ALL OUR DEPTH!"

I'm not sure if this means the leafs are actually good or if leafs nation is just stupid.

I don't think Seattle takes Dermott though, I think they would much rather have Holl

haha ok maybe not needed but it will give Lehtonen and Sandin more time to play while also getting a return for him instead of leaving for nothing, that is if SEA do take him and not Holl

If Holl keeps playing this well Toronto likely goes 4-4-1 instead of 7-3-1. In that scenario, Seattle chooses between Kerfoot, Mikheyev and Dermott.

I agree trading him is not a bad idea, I'd like to see them play Lehtonen a bit too, but just the title "Dermott needs to go", I disagree. He's a good player. No sense giving him away. At least get a player or high draft pick for him, and if the market isn't there, just let Seattle take him.

and SEA probably takes Kerf which means we still have Dermott, which then also means Sandin and Lehtonen would get playing time

look I like Dermott, he's on a great contract too but with the guys behind him he's not really needed ya know?

I disagree. Dermott is younger and will be better 2-3 years in the future, which by that time Holl will hit UFA.

you think? Holl is playing great right now against the toughest competition, showing he can be a shutdown defensemen. Dermott is still a mystery box imo, like yea he can get better but at the same time I feel like I've been saying that for three years ya know

It's kind of a tossup, if Seattle want to win now, they will take Holl and if they want to build up for the future, they will take Dermott in my opinion.

What you said makes no sense. Leafs are probably going to protect three Dmen.....Reilly,Muzzin and Brodie. That leaves Seattle likely to select one of Holl or Dermot. If Dermot is traded, Seattle still takes Holl, so the Leafs are down to three known NHL Dman starting next season. Lehtonen and Bogosian are UFAs. Yes the Leafs still have the inexperienced Sandin and Lehtonen.
Every team is going to lose a players "for nothing" in the draft. Trading one for "nothing" means you lose two NHLers.

Injuries are going to happen, we're 7 games in and Robertson, Thornton and Matthews have all been sidelined already. I say keep him and if any of those guys behind him can push him out of the spot, then you can look at moving him or trying him out on the right side because if Brodie, Holl or Bogosian get injured, next guy up is Liljegren (who I'm fine with) and then it's who? Hollowell? Gets bleak real fast
