they'll never win with him as their superstar if they never get him any help lol, monahan isn't exactly a dynamic offensive threat (he's good at banging in pucks from the high slot but relies on johnny to do literally everything else), tkachuk plays the same position, and lindholm's decent but he's more of a 2-way guy than pure offense. if we had a dynamic sniper to partner with johnny we'd be unbelievably good. johnny's fine, he does what he's supposed to, our GM has just never got him the right partner in crime. this is like saying some offensive defenseman is terrible because the team never plays him with a defensively responsible partner

I don't see this as a good trade. Kakko is a great prospect ngl but it will take him around five years until he can get to Gaudreau level when all the other ore pieces are old. And, Lemieux at most is at most a top 6 if not a fringe top six. The 2021 draft isn't spectacular, other teams probably want 2022 picks. Also, I canèt see Rangers doing this trade because they are not in a rush for an stanley cup rn.

It was a fun game. Ironically I almost missed it as the NHL app said 7pm. In general both sides played well, Leafs will just have to toughen up that D and Flames not let any more own goals lul.

To bad for Campbell potentially suffering a bad injury but man did he pull through. As for Tkachuck shenanigans on the other hand yeah I think Simmonds is gonna have words for him on Tuesday. Butt GG all

3 of his 5 come from the pp. Which don't get me wrong is good to score on the pp, but he's completely 1 dimensional. His inability to play with ANY type of physical play to back check, forecheck, attack the net, attack the zone, take guys out of the play, absorb an actual body check to make a play etc. Is painful to watch. Again, don't get me wrong he can put up points, I'm just saying they aren't going to ever go far without a "superstar" that can do both.

I agree he isn't their best player, he's been there top point producer but he's known in calgary as being the superstar, hence why he's the only forward in the last 6 yrs to be invited to the all star game other than chucky last yr. Im just saying the flames only go as far as jg takes them and that is to the playoffs and thats it...he's too soft I'd take a physical type player over him ANY day.

I disagree, just wait till the playoffs get here again. He's predictable to play against, curl at the top of the circle and stay to the outside. I bet you Monahan is a better player with a physical playmaker on his line.

Yeah you're totally right i just put a trade in there for the sake of it, my point is just that cgy only goes as far as JG takes them. He's expected to be the man in CGY and isn't getting them anywhere further than he's already "taken " them. He might just be the softest player in the league, he has elite hands and he's a good playmaker but he's also easy to shutdown, just watch almost every playoff game ever.

Yeah I dunno man, I agree with you on mony but I bet you mony is better with a player that can actually do that dirty work that he doesnt do. Cause JG sure as hell doesn't do it either. Watch his forecheck, there isn't one. Imagine if he had half the balls fleury did. With his skillset, he'd be an absolute nightmare. No team in the league fears having to play against Gaudreau. Unless they take way more penalties than they should be. He can't win puck battles, he can't take a player out of the play, he can't fight for position, he can't backcheck aggressively. Im just saying they could be so much better with a physical playermaker on the top line. There's obviously a place for players like him in the league, carrying the top line isn't one of them.

It's not random, I've been saying hes soft since before francis tried to run him out of town lol if you lined him up against other "elite" playmakers in the league. Im taking the other guy 99% of the time. He's softer than baby sh*t...

I dunno man, I haven't been a big fan of him since day 1. I wouldn't call it random complaining. I don't like players that play small. You can see the difference of other players his size... dube, mangiapane play a more complete game. I guess im just wishing we could combine Gaudreau with sam Bennett. They could both benefit. Lol

Ya I totally agree with the original statement of the post, and that's not to be a downer cause they are playing pretty well right now with some horrendous bounces resulting in our goals against.

I'm sure we'll be fine during the season but when it gets to playoff time and there's more stickwork and rough play he just chooses to avoid all of it and it kills us. Especially in our own end and forechecking. Really past the "Monahan isn't good enough" line. Is he franchise..... no of course not but name me 20-25 better C's.

Johnny is great with the puck and sets up a ton of goals for guys and I'm not sure Monny could score more with another guy, but it's pretty hard to be everywhere at once. He has to be first on the forecheck cause Johnny won't retrieve pucks at all, then he needs to bust his ass back to backcheck cause Johnny won't do that either. He does a ton of hard work to cover for him that doesn't show up unless you don't do it and your picking it out of your own net. Perfect example was against Vancouver, play was all outside no threats - Monny battles down low, creates a turnover, then Johnny scores. If they don't score Monahan has to backcheck 200 feet. They're career years' were with Lindholm taking half of that responsibility.

Would love Dubois but if Lindholm keeps playing at a 60-70 point pace he is just as good.
