Ya I totally agree with the original statement of the post, and that's not to be a downer cause they are playing pretty well right now with some horrendous bounces resulting in our goals against.
I'm sure we'll be fine during the season but when it gets to playoff time and there's more stickwork and rough play he just chooses to avoid all of it and it kills us. Especially in our own end and forechecking. Really past the "Monahan isn't good enough" line. Is he franchise..... no of course not but name me 20-25 better C's.
Johnny is great with the puck and sets up a ton of goals for guys and I'm not sure Monny could score more with another guy, but it's pretty hard to be everywhere at once. He has to be first on the forecheck cause Johnny won't retrieve pucks at all, then he needs to bust his ass back to backcheck cause Johnny won't do that either. He does a ton of hard work to cover for him that doesn't show up unless you don't do it and your picking it out of your own net. Perfect example was against Vancouver, play was all outside no threats - Monny battles down low, creates a turnover, then Johnny scores. If they don't score Monahan has to backcheck 200 feet. They're career years' were with Lindholm taking half of that responsibility.
Would love Dubois but if Lindholm keeps playing at a 60-70 point pace he is just as good.
