Again, Minnesota have veterans. There's nothing saying that they don't see Menell in their future plans after they're let go. And letting guys walk for free is not smart asset management.
Watch him play, as I do. You'll see he's already a NHL calibre d-man. He skates like one. Moves the puck like one. Can defend on average like one. Can run a PP unit like one. But Minnesota doesn't have the opportunity for him. They have already established guys that do that. That's not his fault. He's proven in every league so far that he's been elite in those leagues, there's nothing saying he can't make the jump to the NHL. Just your opinion doesn't justify that. You've probably never watched him or heard of him till now based on the way you've talked about him. Well, for people that work in the industry like I do, we can see when players are ready for at least some NHL minutes, and Menell is ready for at least bottom pair minutes. Minnesota just had the luxury of depth at the position.
I have watched him plenty, thanks. Again he is what he is, undersized puck mover with serious defensive deficiencies. Ceiling is 3rd pair PP specialist, that you have to hide defensively.
And again. Teams let RFAs go every year.
While i have watched him play i have not followed they whys as to how he ended up in KHL, sounds like it was his decision.
