Description
Both players are playing absolutely horrible. They need a rapid change of scenery, so there's something each could savor from these 7 years left of their contracts.

Definitely not a good trade for the sharks. Doesn’t make any sense.

Makes zero sense for both teams actually (Buffalo doesn’t want the extra cap for the term and the sharks don’t want the worse player ((I mean idk how he’s playing this year so I won’t trash skinner but even still I’d rather Karlsson for the sharks because we have no need for skinner; seeing as a top pair d is more valuable to us than skinner because we need our D men)) and Karlsson is playing very well right now so yes this now makes less sense.

Imo the trade sucks as well, but I'd like you to tell me how exactly EK is playing very well when he's statistically being one of the worst D-men league wide.

Karlsson's not playing absolutely horribly. He's just playing like a 6mil dollar version of himself -- not 11.5mil.

Problem is that MEV's playing like a 3mil man, Burns like a 4mil man, Kane like a 5mil, Couture like a 6mil, Timo like a 5mil, Banker like a 3.5mil man, Jones like a 1.5mil, hell even Simek like a 1.5mil man.

Only guy who's truly playing above his contact level is Hertl. Donato Nieto and Sorensen are giving good value at their contracts too and Ferraro and Leonard are very good ELCers (not elite but still very good).

Karlsson was absolute ass the first 3 games of the season. But he also had played 0 games since mid January in 2020 so there was an adjustment period. Last 2 games he's looked very solid. Still not perfect, but he's due to break out analytically and statistically if he keeps playing like this and doesn't get hurt again. Shades of 2016 EK65. Problem is the coaching staff is playing Karl with Vlasic who basically makes every player around him worse at this point. Especially whoever his D-partner is. Karlsson has looked okay defensively and borderline elite offensively. He's getting better as time goes on.

Hope they buy out Vlasic. Paying him 10 years is costly, but better than using him.

You have not watched Jeff Skinner so far this year. Probably leads the team in dangerous scoring chances despite the fact that he is playing 14 mins a night with Lazar and Sheahan. If he was playing in the top 6 like he should, he would already have 3-4 goals and be ppg.

My answer basically would have been rawzuccs so he got that one done!

But as for the vlasic buyout I’m pretty sure it’s “manageable” in 2023 or 2024.

EDIT: it’s not lol

The contract is basically buyout proof tho if you look at it on the calculator. There’s always a big price tag in the middle of the buyout if we buyout in the next couple years. So just have to sit with the contract for now and wait.

Edit:
https://www.capfriendly.com/buyout-calculator/marc-edouard-vlasic

2024 and 2025 there’s two huge cap hits no matter when you buy it out. So it will have to be in 2025 or 2024 which basically means it’s not even remotely close to worth buying out because his contract is done in 2025. So it’s a contract the sharks have to buyout while rebuilding or dump/ pay to trade. Either way a Vlasic buyout is probably the least likely thing in the NHL haha.
