Why would you rip off your own team. PLD isnt in the same Ballpark as Draisaitl and Jones doesnt make up that difference.

CLB quickly declines. IMO Jones (if extended) is worth more than Draisaitl

PLD is a 60-70 pts (proportional to an 82 games season) guy if he plays on a good offensive team and Jones is a top 10 d-man in the league

Draisaitl’s contract is very good and you can’t replace a 100 point center it’s the hardest thing to get. You have to sabotage your own team for 10 years to get another. A top defence man gets drafted every year or two.

Even CBJ fans will point out Jones flaws, hes not a top 10 dman in the league

Of course this deal heavily favors columbus. There’s just no question of that. I am very high on both of the columbus players, but on one sign of the coin, you have jones for two years before he hits UFA, and PLD for two years before he hits arb eligible RFA. It’s no secret that a market like edmonton has to pay a premium to keep talent from leaving for places that aren’t dark for 23 hours a day during hockey season. On the other side you’ve got an MVP caliber player for five years at a steal of a contract. It’s just not even a decision.

That said, the hardest thing to find is a legit top pair d man. D men are so hard to project, and there’s only a handful of true all situation number one d men in the league.
