Description
Like Danault for a fit in MIN but the question is whether he will resign next year? I assume MTL wanted to see if Danault would sign before they went after PLD and will package KK to get him.

Habs love Danault, you'll have to overpay or wait to see if he becomes a FA

The Habs are better off keeping Danualt, making their Playoff run, and letting him walk. They only have to beat the other Canadian team to make it to the final 4.

Note the explanation. They offered Danault an extension he turned down. I can only think that means they are in on PLD.

Yeah but your offer is poop. And if Danault really isnt signing at a reasonable price with us, HE will be include in a trade for PLD not KK.

I understand MTL wants it to be Danault but I find it very hard to believe CBJ will want him over KK, especially given there is no guarantee he will resign. Even after his temper tantrum, PLD is still very valuable. I don't think its coincidence that news of Danault being offered a contract extension today.

MTL has KK and Suzuki as their future top-6 centers. That future is sooner rather than later. Danualt is at the part of his career where he should be getting his big payday. MTL isn't going to play him top-6 money to be a 3C. Moving KK (or Suzuki) for PLD doesn't really change the number of centers ahead of Danualt.

Unless Danualt goes to CBJ as part of a PLD trade I think they'll use them for this year's Playoff run and the let him walk. Basically think of him as a rental you didn't have to spend anything to get for MTL.

Not a terrible way to think of it. Regardless, I think BG should be seeing how much a Bonino for Danault swap could cost of MTL lands PLD.

It depends if MTL was to use Caufield as trade bait and CBJ took that. Danualt going to CBJ makes a lot of sense then for both teams.

Yeah, but Danault is very valuable as well.... MacKinnon just said he was the hardest guy to play against and that he should have won a Selke already. Plus he puts 50 pts + per year which is basically Dubois s production. And since CLB absolutely wants a top 6 C for Dubois, I have a hard time believing theres a team out there with a center of Danaults value. Monahan is the only guy I could see as a more valuable player to CLB eyes but at the same time, hes been terrible the last two seasons with CGY.

That being said, Danault is staying in MTL unless his desire to be a PP guy and a number one center is bigger than his desire to stay in MTL. KK isnt moving, hes been our best player after Suzuki this year

It does if they think they can resign Danault. This is one of those things that makes way too much sense for MTL and not enough for CBJ unless they get KK too, which doesn’t make sense.

He probably is, the idea here is that MIN should be checking this out. I still don’t know what a PLD trade looks like but it’s not going to be Danault and change. KK makes sense for both sides, CBJ takes the risk on the future upside and MTL gets the current production of PLD.

I also thought of this as it really looks like Danault is gonna walk, which makes me think MTL is a front runner for PLD. At which point Danault is expendable. Great to have for a stretch run, but expendable.

The problem with a Bonino/Danualt trade is getting Danualt to MN and getting him on the ice without missing any games. I have no clue what the protocols are for a US/Canada player trade.

Danualt is better than Bonino, but if MN ends up having to play without either of them due to them having to be quarantined, then it defeats the gains made in the player upgrade.

I've had Danualt as a penciled in UFA signing for MN this offseason. I'm not sure if it's really worth it for MN to make a trade for him this year: fighting for the 4th Playoff spot in the West. Getting Danualt for a more futures heavy trade so MN can run Danualt, JEE, and Bonino as their center lineup makes more sense than just Danualt and JEE.

I think into the US is 7 days with 4 negative tests. I also see your point about waiting to sign him as a UFA but we’d get negotiating rights as part of this, so it’s not the worst. Regardless, it’s an idea.

For the record, I don’t think it’s a good idea for MTL to go after PLD. I just think they will.

He has literally only put up 50+ points once. I love Habs fans. Never change.

So has Dubois... Minus the elite defensive play and faceoff skills.

Slight age difference there. When Danault was PLD's age, he was still trying to make it into the NHL from the AHL. lol

Didn't say I wouldn't want Danault, just that he doesn't have a long history of being a 50+ point scorer.
