Savard probably brings back a 1st at TDL. Any team serious on winning a cup with a need of solid defensive play would probably have him at the top of the list.
As for trading Foligno, that's a real double edge sword. Yeah, moving on from him is no huge loss for CBJ as far as he's gonna be a UFA. But at the same time, I don't know that it's A. even possible and B. in the best interest of CBJ to move him.
as for point A. he probably blocks the trade. He's got kids. They have been settled in Columbus for a long time. I don't think they are going anywhere. So he basically blocks all 10 playoff teams and puts him with one team left on the list, like the penguins or something, aka close by and probably not being traded to.
Point B. what the hell happens inside that locker room after he's gone. They really don't have any to be captain other than him. Those are just facts of life. In a lot of sense you have to think Nick is sort of damage control against Torts. I honestly think he's the only one left in that locker room capable of being that too. I think as he's lost help things have kind of started to spiral. Make no doubt he use to have help. Guys like Dubinsky were huge in keeping that team together. The two of them actually brought guys like Anderson, Jenner, and PLD under their wing and made these guys the players they are today.
Hard nosed, tough, stick up for your teammates kind of guys. Make no doubt about that mentorship.
But Dub is gone, and it's been just Nick. You move a guy like Savard out, and then you trade Nick and the leadership on that team goes where?
Jones? please.
Atkinson? I don't think so.
At some point they need guys willing to go toe to toe with Torts and put him down before he rips the team apart. Which he will. Nick and Dub were that firewall. Neither one was willing to put up with his ****.
That's been known for awhile and removing the last part of that firewall, will mean bad news for CBJ.
