I realize players like Coleman are essential to winning a cup. But that doesn't mean this trade is fair. The narrative that the leafs need more "grit" is a flawed argument (they have Hyman, Muzzin, Simmonds, and Bogo). While adding grit would help, you don't get grit at the expense of Nylander. If the leafs want Coleman so bad, they will just wait until the offseason, or pay Tampa picks and/or prospects to get him. Trading Nylander for him would be like trading Taylor Hall for Adam Larsson. Makes sense to fill a need, but ends up being very bad because the other player is clearly way better.

That's fine. I agree tampa might be hesitant to make that move. But it doesn't matter because Dubas would sure as heck never offer it.

I see what you mean, I feel like bad contracts overshadow how good players are, but it's just that, Killorn doesn't have the greatest contract. 2 mil retained obviously he has quite a bit of value, but it doesn't compensate for the fact that Coleman would likely not be a leaf in 2021-22.

Coleman does not just give you the cup. He's great, don't get me wrong, but Tampa did not win the cup because they acquired Blake Coleman. They won it because their stars and the rest of the team changed how they play.
