Almost identical goalie statistically. Marginal edge to Grubauer. Gibson advantage in age. Gibson much more expensive but tied up for longer. Add in two middle sixers as that is what they are, not 'at best', also bearing in mind Jost is still only 22, a STUD D prospect (former 4th overall pick...let's see.....who else was taken 4th overall Makar, Jones, Pietrangelo to name three), a former third round pick (so not a 'nothing prospect') and another third. Massive overpay. I'd give you at best Grubauer and Stienburg.

Looks like everyone is underrating Grubauer as well then (could have told you that anyway with the obsession with the Avalanche goalie situation on here) as statistically he's marginally better than Gibson!

The Avs were hardly a better team when he joined them, and stats run for a career.

For better or for worse goalies seem to just not carry the value they should. While I agree in where I would value Gibson who imho is a top 4-5 goalie in the league signed at a fair to good contract through his prime, based on what goalies actually get in trade it's likely fair to more than you'd get.

But the market is dumb and I'm with you

Grubauer is underrated but one big thing you are missing is he's never been a true starter. I don't think he's ever started 40 games let one 60

That point I will give you, he's always tended to be in a tandem situation.

That offer for Gibson is a joke. And anyone who thinks Grubauer is anywhere close to being in the same league as Gibson doesn't begin to understand hockey.

Nobody is starting 60 anymore unless there are a ton of injuries or the team sucks. Gibson has done it once in his career ever.

And not a one of them won a cup starting 60 in the season. Also of those 33 3 goalies Bob, Dubnyk and Jones represent 9 of those seasons, I don’t know about you but I’m not betting the farm on those 3. I understand where you are coming from but I think there is a fundamental philosophy change occurring with goal tending in the NHL.

Sure but go with 50 then. You're right that 60 was likely an exaggeration, but my point stands is he's never been a starter. To be honest I'm a big grubauer fan and think try to upgrade on him in most situations is just over tinkering because it's hard not to when you have such a good team and the playoffs are only once a year.

But it is true he has never really been a starter.

(The team in my opinion most guilty of this over tinkering because they can't accept that a good or even great team will sometimes just not win in the playoffs because only one team can in the end were the late 2000s capitals. They kept trying to overhaul that team when they didn't need to)

One more point. Only one of the two goalies has a cup ring!
