Alot of great goalies were back-up before they became starters.....Campbell is undefeated this year.

Not that I believe Campbell will do it, but there's a number of examples of late-blooming goalies.

Curtis Joseph, Evgeni Nabokov, Marty Turco, Sean Burke, Devan Dubnyk, Tim Thomas ... etc, etc.

Jarry hasn't exactly looked like a bonafide starter so far this season. Andersen is fine, just let the team be what it is.

I assume you think this post might be an over-reaction.

dont disagree but i still dont see Campbell as starter

In a 82 game schedule, the so called back up goalie starts about 25 games. In those 25 games, that goalie is a starter.
Now I agree that a teams "best" goalie starts the most games, just like the best forwards and best dmen get more ice time

The following is the reason I hate posts that have extensions as part of the trade agreement. So here are the Leafs in a playoff spot...maybe hoping for a deep playoff run . A trade offer comes for their # one goalie Andersen. Leafs management calls Andersen into the office and say (I'm paraphrasing).
" Freddie, we don't want you anymore. So we want you to immediately sign an extension so we can trade you to the Penguins. Now if you don't sign an extension almost immediately, you won't be traded and of course you are welcome back to the Leafs help us in the quest for a Cup."
I want to be a fly on the wall, when this conversation takes place.

I think Dubas was probably working with Anderson's agent since the end of the playoffs to get an extension with him.......and just could not get an extension deal.........I think the conversation might be more along the lines of "Freddie, we found a team that is interested in acquiring you and doing an extension with you for the dollars you want as we do not have the Cap to resign you for those numbers after this season......would you have any interest in moving now to the Penguins for X dollars.

The question really is do the Leafs really want to move their # one goalie as the Leafs try to a Cup. Now I understand if out of the playoff teams make the type of trade you suggest such as the Stone to Vegas trade two years ago. IMO the Leafs and Andersen have not had serious extension talks. As you suggest the Leafs probably don't have a the cap for Freddie (if he plays well) And the Leafs probably don't have any interest in Freddie unless he leads the Leafs to a deep playoff run. It will be time to move on from him, if the Leafs falter again in the playoffs....wherever it's Freddie's fault or not.

I also wonder if the Leafs are somewhat sensitive to trade him knowing him and Austin Matthews seem to be very good friends.....do not want to tick off Matthews.

You might be right but Leafs are getting more comfortable with him in the net every game.....Anderson also knows the heat is on him to perform......no more excuses.......but do we wait around and let Anderson walk like Markstrom for nothing or make a bold move now.

Let him walk

Who do you think the Leafs start in goal for their next game?

Andersen and then Campbell the game after and then Andersen and then Campbell again.
