you realize Pittsburgh will ask for a actual return to acquire Jarry?

Jarry hasn't exactly looked like a bonafide starter so far this season. Andersen is fine, just let the team be what it is.

He is not at all worth a kings ransom, especially if goaltending is preventing them from being a contender again.

Not if they are willing to sign Anderson for a longer-term contract.

Your missing the point of this trade......the trade was made to clear the crease for Campbell to take over as the No. 1 goalie without Anderson.....easier to just move him out now.

Campbell hasn't proved he's better than Andersen yet.

You might be right but Leafs are getting more comfortable with him in the net every game.....Anderson also knows the heat is on him to perform......no more excuses.......but do we wait around and let Anderson walk like Markstrom for nothing or make a bold move now.

Sorry, there is no logic in trading UFAs when you are a contending team. Every team has about 3 UFAs, so by your are saying all 31 teams or about 93 UFAs are traded every season....but how can they be cause by your logic no team wants a UFA on their roster by season end and let's them walk for nothing.

This just might be the best chance for the Leafs to advance deep in the playoffs playing in the "weak" northern division. They certainly won't be trading their important UFAs, just because they might walk...Andersen, Hyman or even depth UFAs like Bogosian, Spezza, Vesey and Thornton.

Johnny Bower was 34 when he was elevated after playing 14 years in the AHL minors to become the Leafs starting goaltender and went on to win 4 Stanley Cups......So what is your point?

Agree....but look at recent examples of goalies like Jordan Binnington with the Blues or Tim Thomas with the Bruins that emerged out of nowhere to become dominent starters in the NHL.

Jack Campbell was one of the highest drafted goalies in recent years being drafted 11th in the first round and is six feet and two inchces and was winning goalie for the USA in the World Junior Championships.....he has all the tools to be a dominent goalie in the future.......sounds like he got his game together in Los Angles but was buried behind Jonathon Quick playing on a poor Kings team.

and now hes too old to become a good starter (starter being 45 games plus). Jack Campbell is a great goalie, cool guy but hes a really good backup, maybe a FRINGE starter nothing more. hes there to threten but not good enough to take the starters job away from another goalie

Its often just timming for alot of goalies and by that I mean playing behind a team committing to play a stronger defensive game.......I think alot of fans on CapFriendly have no idea of the effect of Manny Malholtra as asssitant coach on the Leafs.....they guy is an unbelievable coach and is going to be a head coach in the NHL one day.......He is going to help the Leafs forwards immensly on playing defence, the power-play and winning faceoffs and this is all going to help the Leafs goaltending as well.

You might be right.......alot of it is how your team plays in front of you.......if they like you then they play harder as they do not want you to fail.

The following is the reason I hate posts that have extensions as part of the trade agreement. So here are the Leafs in a playoff spot...maybe hoping for a deep playoff run . A trade offer comes for their # one goalie Andersen. Leafs management calls Andersen into the office and say (I'm paraphrasing).
" Freddie, we don't want you anymore. So we want you to immediately sign an extension so we can trade you to the Penguins. Now if you don't sign an extension almost immediately, you won't be traded and of course you are welcome back to the Leafs help us in the quest for a Cup."
I want to be a fly on the wall, when this conversation takes place.
