They have literally no structure

Description
And the thing is that Idk how they can fix their defensive structure. Neal's contract remove quite a bit of cap room, they don't have a ton of picks and they don't have a lot of blue chip prospects.

MARK MY WORDS, I'd be very surprised to see them in the 2021 playoffs

And between their buyouts and retention on Lucic combined with Neal's contract they have almost 10 million in dead cap space as well. It's a real big problem

I honestly want them to be good and when they fired Chirelli I hoped they would have gotten a forward thinking new age thinker in charge. When they picked Holland I really was worried he'd do exactly what he is doing which is trying to fix the mess quick and it just can't be done. They need to replace half their roster and not with older hasbeens and long shots but drafted talented players who can help McDavid and Draisaitl. I really think McDavid will want out before his contract is done.

Yeah idk how you fix it either. I think they'll make the playoffs just because of their elite offensive players, but I don't know how much they'll do when they get there.

Hopefully Smith comes back soon and the defense can come together, but doubt is starting to creep in for me for sure

IMO Nicholson (their president of hockey operations) is cancerous. Oh, and did u know Lowe and McTavish are still working for the Team?laugh

Their whole organization is just a mess. THey fired Chiarelli a year and a half too late, they wasted so many picks and prospects, have had no proper D structure for a decade, have had no real legit long term goalie since god knows who, do I need to keep going?

Totally! Just an old boys club and Katz doesn't know enough to know better. I just don't see an end.

Their blue chip prospects are on defense Broberg, Samorukov and Bouchard. They also have supporting 3rd line wingers and center in the system who are fast skaters and big. They need to find a true no 1 defense because nurse isn’t it and they need a goalie and at least 1 elite scoring winger.

As built, they will go as far as 29 and 97 take them.

They have some good prospects on the way, Broberg, Bouchard and Holloway.

They have some hard decisions to make. RNH being the biggest, if Kevin Hayes got 7.1, I think RNH gets at least that, maybe more. Nurse is a year away from UFA, decision to be made there.

They need to find a goalie as well. Koskinen is servicable, but not one you hang banners with. The upcoming UFA class isn't great, Andersen and Binnington would be the headliners, if they even make it to market. I think you have to look at a trade.

If Hamilton makes it to UFA they should dump Nurse in the garbage and sign Hamilton!

If only we had our lord and saviour Anton Forsberg still, and not lost in the waiver ether, then all would be right with the world lol.

Meh, I think they're really just missing Klefbom, he'd really settle a lot of the pressure on the backend.

This team just isn't built for defense though anyway, they're gonna have to outscore their issues, no doubt a goalie upgrade would help, pretty tough to do that now though.

Please explain to me how holland is trying to fix this fast he hasn’t moved one big name player and AA would still be a Oiler if it wasn’t for covid and the flat cap.

Totally agree uncle bob is just as much responsible for this mess as Chiarelli, I don’t know what people expect holland to do with the mess he was left with no cap, when he was hired you know change wasn’t coming till 21-22 season with cap to work with and Broberg, Bouchard and McLeod already to be full time NHLers

Patching the roster with Ennis, Turris and the rest of the nobodies he picked up and doing nothing about the goaltending and defence doesn't help. Nor did sending assets to get AA and the rest of his reinforcements at the deadline last year. It's clear Holland is trying to win now.

So spending next to nothing to add actual NHL players to the roster to add depth to what was a thin forward group is some how wrong, adding a proven PP quarterback to replace Klefbom is wrong, but going out and overpaying a UFA goalie and blowing the little cap he had or trading away prospects that will be a huge part of the oilers future, that would be classed as trying fix the problems to win now. As mentioned earlier AA would still be a Oiler if it weren’t for the flat cap, 2 second rounder for a 30 goal scorer fare value, unless your implying that he should have been able to predict a global pandemic, those moves were made when the oilers were battling for a division title when’s the last time the oilers did that??

Holland has done nothing but took a controlled approach about building this roster, hasn’t trade one top end roster player or top prospect that would affected the oilers future like every other GM has done the last 10 yrs trying to WIN NOW, trying to improve your team for the playoffs is what you want from your GM to do.
