Description

This trade would take place this offseason between the Expansion Draft and the Amateur Draft... Or the Trade Deadline if the Rangers are out of the playoff picture.

The Rangers are in an interesting position this offseason in which they have enough cap space in 2021-2022 to resign Buchnevich, but not enough cap space in 2022-2023.

Maybe it would be better to maximize Buchnevich's trade return by assuming Eriksson's contract for one season.

Vancouver has no incentive to make this deal. If Patrick Marleau cost the Leafs just a 1st to move, Eriksson wouldn't cost more. He'd only have $4M left on his contract, it's likely he's shipped off in a deal similar to what the Rangers did with Marc Staal to a team that has a ton of cap space for virtually nothing. I don't see Vancouver giving up a 1st with him. At that point they're smarter to just buy him out

The 2nd is for Eriksson which is exactly what the Rangers gave for Staal. The 1st is for Buchnevich who is a RFA and could be signed with the money saved with Eriksson coming off the books.

At the end of the season or at the trade deadline - if the Rangers aren't in the playoff picture, Buchnevich will be worth a 1st. At least that's my prediction.

I'd prefer to remove Eriksson to make the price less expensive. I'd also rather not include Gaudette. How about a 2nd and some prospect instead
