With that much retention it's debatable, I mean probably send you Mittlstadt, and let's say a first and another B prospect. Skinner is worth the money at 6.5

I think Skinner at 6.5 is worth alot and the sabres are retaining 2.5...at that point Skinner isn't a cap dump but a valuable piece

I believe skinner has the worst contract in the whole nhl other than erik karlsson. You can't start with a negative for Dubois.

Vlasic and Burns are much worse

Skinner even at 6.5m really has negative value in today's NHL. CBJ just for cap reasons don't even listen to any deal if Skinner is included.

That’s just incredibly false. Even with his terrible last year, he’s averaged 29 goals a per 82 over his career. Scores most at even strength as well. He doesn’t have negative value at 6.5. Full value of the contract you bet. At 6.5 not even close to negative value

We can have this discussion in another 7 years. IMO Skinner peaked two seasons and now at the age of 28 will have terrible value going forward. For Skinners sake and Buffalo fans....I hope for their sake, Skinner has a good career.

He needs to show he is still elite/good. His terrible season can’t be ignored until he bounces back. If he was a free agent no one would sign him for 6.5, he would get a prove it deal like Barrie and Hoffman.

It’s like Loui Ericksson before he signed with Vancouver. He never turned it around and Vancouver is stuck with an anchor. Skinner can turn it around but until he does no team will touch him or his contract.

Of course it’ll take time to play out. That’s why I hate the really intense Matthews Eichel who’s better debates. How about we just say they’re both really good young players and one will take off over the other or maybe not in 5-10 years. Then have that discussion. My point was that even taking out the 40 goal season (he won’t return to that) and last season (his career to date that has been the worst season so would assume he wouldn’t return to that either) he’s a near 30 goal scorer at even strength. Those guys have value, lots of it. Before he went to Buf and got 40, I bet most teams woulda gladly signed him for 6.5 long term. One incredible and one disappointing season doesn’t really change the sentence before in my mind. And I just want him around that 30 goal mark. He’ll never live up to 9M, but if he gets 25/30 a year, I can live with it (not that i really got a choice)

So you don’t think without the pandemic that coming off a 40 goal season and then having a bad, injury plagued year he still couldn’t have signed for 6.5? Even tho his entire career suggests otherwise? Then I will just disagree. Some team would have gladly taken him at 6.5. ****, his contract before that was like 5.25 I believe. No that’s not what I’m saying. I’m not talking about after his 40 goal season. I’m talking about this offseason that just passed. Mike Hoffman coming of 36 and 29 (shortened season) goal seasons just signed for 1x4m. He took a pay cut because no one was offering him big money and term. Skinner is coming off a terrible year, do you think the same teams that wouldn’t offer mike Hoffman 5 or 6 million would give 6.5 x 7 to skinner after a terrible season?

When they signed matters. Revenue was going up when skinner signed his 9M (we all agree it was too high). Had Hoffman had that same season without covid, no way he’s signing a one year deal. That’s my point. If your saying in order to trade him at 6.5, I can see your point. Gonna be tough if Ralph keeps playing him with plugs.

I think he was definitely worth 6.5+ when he signed. I was talking about his value now when it came to the trade. Also agreed, he needs to play in the top 6, or atleast with cozens on the third.

If you actually think Skinner is or ever has been 4th line talent, ya it says more about you. Whatever is going on with Ralph and Skinner isn’t representative of Skinners talent.
