Avs Cap Sitch 2022

Créé par: coga16
Équipe: 2021-22 Avalanche du Colorado
Date de création initiale: 15 janv. 2021

Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
A roster to show once Avs take care of their own in Landy and Makar....plus invest in Grubi as a starting goalie or anyone else....their cap situation is locked in already so the PLD and Barkov trades make 0 sense. They cant afford to take on salary without major moves

Pretty spot on in my opinion any changes I would make would be cosmetic and not of significant nature like I’d expect Byram and Makar to be a pairing but with the Avs it is often blender combinations

Oh for sure I wasn't going to get too in-depth with pairs and such but more to the point that if Avs are going to do any of these major moves people keep on posting, they have to send out as much cap as they take on...and when you are getting a PLD or Barkov paying to upgrade from Kadri with a Byram or Newhook as they are doing....whats the point when its legit only for 1 season as they cant keep any of these trade guys

Totally agree. The Avs big moves will be young guys joining the team because 1 they are good and 2 they will be cheap.

the only thing they legit could do is try to move out a Donskoi or Compher to try to keep saad but moving their cap hits into his for an extended deal . Let say they move out Nuke and Donskoi to keep saad around 4.5m. ITs a better line up if its

    Landy Mack Rants
    Bura Kadri Newhook
    Saad Compher Kaut
    Jost Bowers LOC

This would be the way to go IMO. Donskoi's over the hump. Haven't seen anything of note out of him in a good long while now. The one change I might make/advocate for is Jost's contract. If he has a good year, then $2 million might be appropriate but given covid and his play, I could see him more in the $1-1.5 range.

I could see them 1 year at 1.5m as well. I sort of used the Nuke 2 year deal to bump him up as a comp. But if they are 500k or so from filling out a roster, I can see the 1 year option for him, that is if he doest have a break out season of course.

There are some other rookies as well like Kovalenko who could make the jump over as well, so more ELC guys to fill out the bottom 6.

Makes sense. Do you know what would happen with Byram's bonuses in that instance? We'd have to account for them in the cap, would we not?

I recall the DNVR guys talking about Byram bonuses and their thoughts was it really wouldn't come into play probably until the 3rd year of his ELC with how they probably will slowly bumped up his minutes etc over the next season or 2. He wont be pulling a makar, which is a very reasonable take IMO

A PLD trade, for instance, would certainly involve someone like Donskoi or Compher going the opposite direction for salary purposes. Then his raise would come due when Kadri is off the books.

I disagree they can only nibble at the margins at this point.

Its all about cap space going forward, you have to tear down to add big money guys like PLD or you decide you want PLD over landy. You cant have both planning around MacKinnons next contract

PLD is paid using Kadri's money, and MacKinnon is paid using Johnson's. If Cale really gets the long term deal rather than a bridge, then you trade Naz a year early. There will be takers, so it's doable imo.

PLD is getting 8m at a min his next contract, Its an easy move to do. It really will be picking Landy over PLD who gets the money bc Mackinnnons contract, Makars, and Rants, you turn into the leafs really quickly once you have 4 BIG money contracts and are forced to fill out the rest of your roster with scraps and cast offs.

Its not an easy slam dunk addition without some serious deep cut sacrifices

Kadri and Donskoi gets it there. Eventually something gives, but it's not Landy or Mack. Rather it's the 3LD (whoever that is between Girard and Toews). Fortunately they get a nice haul in return though.

It's all speculation and won't happen, but there is enough room to maneuver that it's not totally doa.
