Description
Borgstrom probably isn't playing for the Panthers again (unless he pulls a Puljujarvi and comes back out of nowhere). Chicago has a number of young centers kicking around in the system, but Borgstrom is a piece I've liked for a couple years now and did have some success in the Panthers top-6 back in 18-19 (50 GP, 18 pts, 0.5 WAR, good looks on the PP). He's playing well in the Liiga now and was briefly teammates with Ian Mitchell at the University of Denver, so he's been a guy the Hawks have had a chance to get their eyes on.

I don't know what Florida would want for him, but I know they're experimenting with a bunch of different young defensemen. Lucas Carlsson is a decent high-floor option that they could probably stick on their bottom pair and rotate in and out with some of the other guys they have. That's the most I'd be willing to give away, ideally he'd only cost like a 3rd or 4th but I'm not really sure how Florida sees him at this point.

With Borgstrom, I like these lines too. Delia starts, Janmark and Soderberg can rotate in or take someone's place (Kampf, Carpenter, Wallmark) in the bottom-6.

I'm down. Q will like Carlsson. He's physical and responsible on the back end. He won't be a flashy offensive Dman, but Q's 100% ok with that.

I figured he'll be a good 5-6 guy for them. Looked okay in his outings last season, but him, Beaudin and Kalynuk I think he's gonna be the third best of the three. Would kinda rather work those guys in and use one of them to get another asset if we could.

Not that this trade is just to get rid of Carlsson haha but you know what I mean

I think he'll be better than Kalynuk. I actually think it's possible he might be better than Beaudin. I like Carlsson a lot. BUT Beaudin is younger and still has a higher ceiling....it's just whether or not he can hit that ceiling.

I hope he can, I really like Beaudin. Still wish we could've had Veleno or Romanov with that Nashville pick, but Beaudin looks like he could be a good one too. Hopefully we get another look at him this year

No clue what they are doing with him, bc there was reports that the Panthers were down on him and had no plans for him anyways.
They need to trade him and be done with it

100% agreed. I understand COVID has made things difficult to manage the development of every player, but the whole back and forth has got to be killing that kid's development. AHL to NHL to AHL to Liiga! Gotta be rough. VERY different styles.

Panthers have a poor track record of using the AHL as well, that is part of their issue, they send kids down there and dont really give them the proper development paths to the NHL.
Like its pretty common sense, a team wants their kids to do the role they see in the NHL, so if the idea is for them to be a 3rd line defensive PK forward, put them on the PK....dont have AHL lifers doing the PK work for that team,
