Description
Great first game, everyone played well with except for Greene and Martin

Pulock: He was incredible. He was great at both ends of the ice and the metrics back that up. He led the team with a 90 % xgf%

Dobson: What a stud. Just give him the Norris already. In all seriousness , he really is the perfect defenseman for this team. He had a great game and played over 20 min. 51% xGF% and always seemed to make the right play.

Lee: It looks like regression to the mean is happening with Lee. He was a bit unlucky last season, I wouldn't be surprised if he scores at a 30 G pace.

Bellows: Guy was trying to play like a grinder so trotz doesn't take him out of the lineup lol - led the team in hits and had a few good looks.

In my honest opinion, both teams played like crap the Rangers just played worst than the Islanders. But that's to expected first game of the season with no pre-season games both teams timing was off and they looked out of sync a lot. Our PP at times looked great and other times it looked like the same one that couldn't score in the playoffs. Our back checking was amazing tonight, but our defense didn't look settled it wasn't sound at all and if it wasn't for Varley it would have been a closer game.

I agree Lee looked good, Bailey still won't shoot the damn puck and Eberle is still doing that **** pause then shoot crap he was doing last year. Someone seriously needs to sit him down and explain what a one timer is. Other than that it was a good win,

It wasn't just Martin that was bad it was that entire line they didn't come out flying like they usually do, I'll just chalk it up to the fact that it's the first game of a long layoff, they'll get going eventually.

I thought the D was solid - Greene was terrible but it’s just one game. I thought the pelech-pulock pairing was great. I am not a Leddy fan but he was decent tonight, same with mayfield.

Lol eberle is frustrating at times but he’s effective.

I thought cizikas + clutter were great , it was martin that was a step behind. I’m also salty that he got that contract lol

The D wasn't terrible, but there was moments they were running around like chickens with their heads cut off. I was beginning to wonder if Trotz switched systems that how out of sync they looked to me. That and they kept entering our own net hindering Varley more than they were helping them. But like you said it's just one game and there was no pre-season either.

I wasn't impressed with that whole 4th line to be honest, normally they come out flying land a crap ton of hits and set the pace of the game, they came out limping this time.

And yeah Eberle frustrates the hell out of me..lol..he needs to seriously works on his release. Just watch the rest of the team, they get the puck and it's off their sticks instantly. Eberle gets the puck, he pauses looks for the shot THEN shoots it. I think he's score more if he just shot it without over thinking it first.

But anyways, still happy they won.

I’m just happy the guys who are supposed to drive our success from the back end (pulock + Dobson) had great games. That bodes well for the future. The rest of the D core should improve as they play more games.

I’m almost positive eberle hesitates because of trotz quality over quantity approach to taking shots. If you go and watch his highlights from the 17-18 season when weight was the coach, he was was more of a risk taker and he wasn’t afraid to shoot right away.

Eberle should go back to that style, that's how all the greats do it. I give them 4 to 5 games and and they'll be on the same page not just Islanders, but all the teams should be. It's been a long layoff, longer for some of the other teams.
