Not a Habs fan, but you should especially if you want to win now.
Its the boat vs the mystery box, and you really need a boat.

I don't think Suzuki is a mystery box, he's just so good

You guys are overrating the **** out of him. Will he be great? Maybe but as of now he hasn't been producing results that you guys seem to think he has. PLD is only a year older and has been legitimately good.
Take the damn boat peter

Dubois 10 times out of 10 imo. Not sure if you want non-Hab-fans in on the poll but that's my two cents. I'd add a decent piece to Suzuki to get that done.

That is where you are wrong. PLD had 49 points in 70 games last year and Suzuki 41 in 71 games. One is CBJ #1C one year older, the other is a rookie who started on the 4RW playing with Nate Thompson. He managed to outplay Kotkaniemi, after mid season Domi, to finally become MTL #1C during the playoffs outplaying Danault. We are not overrating him, he is just freaking good. He is a better 2-way player than PLD, he might even outplay him this season. He is finally our #1C, will get minutes and PP time. We expect him to be a PPG this year, you might say wtf you guys are crazy, just wait for it. Not saying he will, but at least be close to be a PPG

Yeah, If you're using points to evaluate a player in 2021, you're not gonna get very far. Look Suzuki is going to be good. PLD is already there and still getting better. Take the Boat. Or don't I'm a fan of a divisional rival.

How did he ruin it? He was just giving his opinion and backing it up? There’s nothing wrong with that, if you want to only talk to habs fans go to the habs forum and post there. I just don’t get why you’re mad when he’s just backing up his opinion with stats.

As a habs fan, i will take Suzuki for caps reasons : 1.Suzuki is still on his ELC
2. Because of the MTL cap trouble, a PLD vs Suzuki trade would need a 4-5 M contract going back to CLB. So it would propably Tatar/Drouin going back to CLB. I much rather have Suzuki AND Tatar/Drouin than Dubois. Suzuki will outplay or atleast be at the same level of PLD in 1-2 years
For caps reason

The problem is, its not just Suzuki for PLD is it? Habs have ZERO cap space. So that trade couldn't happen til next off season anyway and if it were to happen this year, Habs would need to add another significant piece for it work, which IMO then makes it not worth it from a Habs perspective. PLD is amazing and all but that time has passed. Its not happening. I was all for Habs OS Dubois like they should have but now with what MB has done in the offseason, its too late. That money is spent.

Habs need Suzuki and his ELC contract for this year and next. Adding Dubois now means not only do they lose Suzuki, but almost certainly Tatar and Danault in free agency now as well.

BTW for the debate, PLD is the better player right now. Habs don't want to admit it but its true. Will he be for the rest of both guys careers? I'm not sure about that. Suzuki's has been getting better and better at an alarming rate and Its not like Suzuki is just a point producer, he's been very good at both ends of the ice. The hesitation to move him for PLD straight up is valid. There are more factors involved than just "whose a better player right now".

I'm looking at Dubois's stats and I don't understand why people are placing his value so high.

48 pts in 82 games
61 pts in 82 games
49 pts in 70 games

Suzuki will easily reach that potential and probably produce more. I get he's 6ft3 and from Quebec but who cares where he's from.

This situation reminds me a lot of the Drouin situation. A player unhappy with his current team, pouts and moans until he gets what he wants. We already have one of those and don't need another.

If Dubois really wants to play in Montreal, just wait until he is UFA at 26-27 and sign him then.

I agree with everything. (Other than the 3rd paragraph)
Dubois isn’t much better than anyone we have. I’d even argue that Danault is a better player right now. Sure, I’d definitely be willing to swap PLD & Danault, but that’s only because Danault is 5 years older. But we certainly don’t need Dubois to win at all.

@GMs
No,
I’d love PLD on the wing. He’s big and can score a decent amount so far. Suzuki is a 200-foot centre with very high offensive upside. The guy above is clearly a toddler. I’ve looked at advanced numbers before and unfortunately they all suck. They sound good until you actually think about it and look into other numbers that impact them and realize they suck.

I’d love to get PLD on the wing as I stated above, he'd make this team even more dangerous. Suzuki is a 2 year who has only been improving, and a 200 foot centre who can put up good numbers is huge. I don’t see Mtl getting him unless it’s for caufield and stuff... I’d move danault but his faceoffs and defence is too valuable

Suzuki is a non starter. @GMs and @F50marco got that figured out.

KK (and some cap) would be a gamble, an all-in move to get Price and Weber a better shoot at the cup in the next 2 years, even if Bergy looses the trade on the long term. A lot of bodies would move around to respect the cap. Unlikely during the season because of quarantine, could still happen this summer, with a better idea of both players potential. I wouldn't do it.

Danault resigned + Caufield/Struble/Harris + high pick would be the best scenario IMO. Apparently, CLB want a replacement center under team control for many years and a defenceman prospect. They also like them cheap (on a budget) and American (for marketing).
Danault could be a good replacement for Dubois and he would be given as much responsabilities as he desire for a resonnable caphit. Torto seems to scare players away though, making the extension less plausible, even if Danault plays the right way. Habs have depth on RW and LD, so giving up an American top prospect wouldn't hurt much. Another team might beat that offer, but that's the only one I would put on the table. Take it or leave it.

Only untoutchable for PLD are Suzuki and Romanov

Suzuki because of ELC and Jesus, he is crazy good. PLD still better atm, but I think Suzuki will reach is level has soon has this year or next.

Romanov is also untouchable because we are thin and old on D. I’m not trading another Sergashev. He is also a horse .

KK + would be my offer; for a guys who wants out.
