ERod isn't an NHL player. He has speed but no skill, no shot.
They should play OConnor.

They need better play out of their centers. They are getting killed on the dot. 20% isn't cutting it. It's pinning the team in it's own end and then means Crosby has to come take defensive zone faceoffs. That isn't helping this team.

ERod couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with that shot. You don't even have to worry about him with the puck, it's not going in. And Sceviour is non existent on the ice. No where to be found.
And the reason I'm "obsessed" with OConnor is he has all the tools to succeed and be a kind of guy they need on the bottom 6.
If you are only gonna get 10 or less goals out of a guy on the year, at least have one that can contribute in other ways and be a pain in the ass to play against. They don't have guys like that on their bottom 6 other than Tanev.

I don't think any of these guys is getting 30 points in a 56 game season. I really do mean that. But this team has nothing to lose. ERod is not winning us games. Sceviour, I'm wondering if he even shows up to the game. Has anyone seen him on the ice because I haven't.
At the end of the day this team needs better play, and to be harder to play against.
They need better play from their bottom 2 centers who are of 0 help at this point. They can't go on at 20% faceoffs. That just can't happen. Especially when the defense is that bad.
This was the problem with finding a 3C because we all knew Blueger who is a decent player, can not win faceoffs. That part was clear last year. Crosby can't take them all. It limits him from being on the other side of the ice where he belongs. You are only going to get 18-20 minutes a night out of him. Putting those minutes in his own zone isn't the answer.
They need guys who can A. win a face off, and B. dig a puck out of their own zone. That just isn't Erod or Sceviour.
They also need better play from their defense all around. Especially Matheson who needs to stay in front of the net where he can actually help, and Ceci.
And while they might get better play out of POJ, playing him is not an option if they ever want to dump Matheson's contract, they need him to turn it around. Which means the one on the short leash has to be Ceci.

I’m not sure 1 game is time to sound the alarms. I mean, gotta take into account that philly has one of the best center corps in regards to faceoff ability. That’s just with G and coots. Add Hayes and patrick who are typically 50-52%, then Laughton who isn’t too bad. I’ll wait 5 games or so before sounding the alarm

Truth is it isn't one game. ERod has had the same problem for some time on having no shot and being no threat with the puck. Sceviour has been relatively unnoticeable everywhere he's gone. Ceci has made a career out of being a disaster and Matheson is looking just like a lot of people expect him to. Chasing the puck, out of position and being the reason goals are coughed up.
None of it is just 1 game.
While it is possible for guys to change some things, like Matheson to actually ****ing play better. Others like ERod magically finding a shot, simply aren't going to happen.

I was more so talking about the faceoff issue lol. I agree ERod sucks and can’t wait for Kapanen to replace him on that first line. ERod should never be higher than the 4th line. Would much rather a guy like Lafferty, McCann, or just about anyone else to fill in for injuries to top 6. And yeah, Ceci sucks. They need to just put Riikola in on a bottom pair with Matheson. Maybe a sheltered role will be a blessing for both of them. Let a Dumo-Letang and MP-Marino top 4 eat the bulk of the minutes.

The thing with the faceoff is Blueger was no better last year, so It's not gonna improve. It's his biggest issue as a center.
Jankowski has had 1 of 3 years being over 50% with last year being at 44%.
At some point you just don't expect change.
But what is true, is if Crosby is the only guy who can take a faceoff, the team is in trouble. They need to use him like BOS uses Bergeron. Keep him in the Ozone and keep his legs fresh.
