Mid season trades

Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
Free Agent signings:

- Holland signs up Shore for practice squad purposes, likely sees fair game action with injury or covid related issues that forces players to be held out
- Holland also signs a pair of former DET veterans to be no more then practice squad members, seeing a couple of games between them MAX. Howard would be to replace Forsberg who recently got picked up on waivers. Ericsson would be to replace Lagesson (as I believe he should be re-loaned out to Sweden as he played great there (+ Broberg will report to Edmonton after the SHL season, Broberg & Lagesson both would push Ericsson out of a spot at that time)

(EDIT)
- Veteran practice squad signings push younger players to play full time in AHL

CGY
  1. Chiasson, Alex
  2. Choix de 6e ronde en 2021 (EDM)
Détails additionnels:
Flames get some PP & RW depth help, as Oilers get some PK and C depth help. Oilers add in a 6th to keep cap even both ways

EDM
  1. Hall, Taylor (3 000 000 $ retained)

  1. Ennis, Tyler
  2. Samorukov, Dmitri
  3. Choix de 1e ronde en 2021 (EDM)
  4. Choix de 2e ronde en 2022 (EDM)
Détails additionnels:
(If Sabers are selling at deadline)
Ennis returns to Buffalo as he knows the city and likely few players & executives. Falls out of lineup with the acquisition of Hall, depending on his play in EDM could be a trade flip candidate for BUF. Samorukov adds defensive prospect depth to a forward heavy prospect pool (Mittlestadt, Cozens, Quinn)
3.
WPG
  1. Russell, Kris
Détails additionnels:
Jets pick up some defensive depth which is much needed after losing Luca Sbisa. Oilers rely on Koekkoek as the 3LD and extend him (for expansion draft) Jets may also be more inclined to trade in division to avoid quarantine

Cant say I’m a huge flames fan (check the name) so I couldn’t tell ya. But Chiasson was a net front presence on the leagues best PP last season. Hopefully throughout the season Puljuarvi replaces Chiasson for EDM. Chiasson would be a welcome addition to CGY’s first unit I’m sure

First Unit? I was trying to figure out who he might replace on the 2nd unit...
There is no chance he replaces Tkachuk on the first unit, that's absurd. As for the 2nd unit, There is Backlund, Mangiapane, Gio, Hanifin/Valimaki, then the last spot can be any of Dube, Bennett, Lucic, Simon, Simon, or Leivo. Ryan is just being sent down temporarily to gain some cap space. He won't be down long

Buf is deeper at defensive prospects then they are at forward ones. With the retention they could do better then a third rounder yet to make a splash and a later first and future second.

That's a lot even with 3 mil retention for a UFA. I think they'll get offers for sure but don't expect much more then that.

Flames already tried Chiasson, he’s really not appealing to us. We have Dube, Leivo, and Simon, all of whom I like more than Chiasson for a depth scoring RW in a PP2 role.

No thanks on Hall. I would be down if we were contenders for the cup, but we aren’t.

Is it from Buffalos perspective? A late first, a late second a year later, and a prospect that might be good in 2/3 years at a position of organization strength. The offer gets beat imo

In the North Division anyrhing can happen, this would only be if Buffalo is 7/8 and we are 1/2

If I’m correct he was just waived and according to a tweet I saw, he’s not skating in the starting lineup.

It appears so... even on daily faceoffs!

https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/teams/calgary-flames/line-combinations/

Looks like they want to get their center depth better while adding Lindholm on the second line.

I don't think there's a plausible move here, save MAYBE signing Howard. Which I wouldn't do.

I'll leave the other stuff that's been covered above alone (aside from the people sleeping on Samorukov will be eating crow in 1-2 years time).

But why on God's Green Earth would you loan Lagesson back to Liiga? That makes no sense. He's ready to step in now (was last year, actually). Just makes no sense when you're going to have a big need for defensemen in such a compressed, injury/illness sensitive season. After starting the year in Liiga and playing at a high rate over there, he's already in game shape and up to speed.
