Now settle down there Jack, this is only a hypothetical scenario and Tampa would not want anyone to take Johnson at this point. Everyone's salary situations are figured out, the season starts Wednesday, Johnson is not a bad player, and he's on waivers for 30 other teams to claim if they so choose. If it happens, here's what Tampa looks like in the regular season:

- Volkov and Joseph become regular starters
- Spot(s) open up for Raddysh, Katchouk, and/or ABB to get some NHL games under their belt
- With Johnson gone and the 1st still in Tampa's possession, the ability to make a TDL move for someone like Goodrow or Coleman is present, or make a move for someone else at a lesser price. RHD help would probably be the move instead of a forward unless Volkov and/or Joseph look helpless

I don’t think anybody does but I wouldn’t be really heartbroken if he is claimed. Is he still a good player yes however it would free up a lot of cap space also give the lightning the ability to try and package another long-term contract we’re looking to get out from under with a bunch of pics to Seattle

I think a guy to take Johnson's spot would be maybe Kyle Palmieri. His contract is 4.65 so NJ would have to retain a little bit but you figure they'd be bad and would love another 1st round pick. He also only has one year so his contract wouldn't affect another hard off season next year. Another player would be Rickard Rakell. He has a pretty small contract, but it's 2 years so it might affect their off season. However his contract is small enough that it might not matter

No one would take him for free before cause they knew it would bail Tampa outta their cap situation. Now that they're compliant, getting Johnson for free is highly beneficial for most teams. Ottawa should look he's at him first and foremost

How about see what Volkov and Joseph can do and leave flexibility in case an injury occurs.

We’re lucky cause we got our Stanley cup winning 2nd and 3rd line intact. Then when Kucherov comes back we’d actually have a more dangerous forward unit than last year. We don’t need Johnson cause he’d probably get demoted to the 4th line (if we keeping that 3rd line together) in time for the playoffs. Ofc this scenario only happens if the team manages to stay healthy

That's a problem for next year. There's no reason why they can't convince Seattle to take him at a relatively cheap cost. He can still perform and he's from the Seattle area. Great marketable guy for an expansion team

McDonagh? Who's actually useable to Tampa? Doesn't seem smart when Tampa's been consistently trying to add a top 4 d-man for years.

Johnson makes sense for Seattle to take along with a 2nd and a mediocre prospect. Win win for both sides
