Description
Kylington (pronounced "Shilling-ton") is an interesting case, he has loads of offensive potential but is somewhat weak in his own end. Over the last few years he has definitely improved but still lacks the necessary tools to be a bottom 4 2-way guy, that does not however mean he can't get them. Unfortunately in Calgary he has been passed in the depth chart by upcoming prospect Juuso Valimaki. It helped his case when Valimaki had injury issues the last 2 years allowing Kylington to get a long term roster spot, however 2 years in a row Calgary went and acquired defensemen at the deadline that pushed him down the roster charts come playoff time.

Overall he's fairly similar to an unpolished version of Gustafsson. Can QB the powerplay (never really got a chance in Calgary though) but should have either a defensively reliable partner or sheltered offensive zone minutes. He still has plenty of potential to be a legitimate top 4 PP specialist guy but is blocked by the depth in Calgary

Unfortunately for them, neither team has high priority order for waiver claims

I don’t see a ton of teams wanting him that are low on the priority. Kinda like ho sang in the sense that he a very situational player like you said but who knows. Would like if SJS but on him but we don’t need any more offensive dman

I think NYR is a team that would take a chance on him if they don’t think Miller is ready yet. Pretty much any low end team could use a solid young LD with offensive upside (even Ottawa might take a look, I reckon he’s at least as good as Reilly). As a Flames fan I hope he clears though lol, but if he doesn’t we still have Valimaki and Mackey to support Hanifin up the left side long term (and Kuznetsov/Poirier in a few years). Poirier and Kinnvall might be able to fill in that 3rd pair PP specialist role as well. So it sucks because he’s good, but we for sure can live without him.

Ho-Sang is fairly different, he hasn't made the NHL in over a year now and played very few games when he did. Kylington was at least a regular in Calgary and in the few times he was sent down was quite dominant.

Miller has been the best Ranger dman in camp (from what I’ve read). Sounds like he has made the team and will be paired with Trouba. Fox and Lindgren will pair together. That means ADA needs a LD partner on the 3rd pair. Rangers should absolutely go after Kylington.

That does not seem like a good pair though, at that point I would put Fox with or Trouba with Kylington and ADA with the other

Kylington-ADA would give you nightmares defensively and have you begging for JJ or Smith lol. I'm more thinking if they decide not to rush Miller in a short year where they're likely not in the playoffs anyway (some guys look good in camp and start to fade after a few games, Formenton made the Sens out of camp 2 years ago for example, and while he's still a top prospect, he's likely spending another half-season in the AHL at least), Kylington might be able to slide into that role alongside Trouba. Alternatively, ADA on Trouba's left and Kylington manning the 3rd pair with whoever you like, but two offense only guys probably won't work well.
