Description
I guess losing Juulsen was better than trading Kulak??

Boy oh Boy I hope Perry or Frolik don't get claimed.

Seems like risky business. Could have got a return on Kulak and kept Juulsen. I value Kulak and I guess it's better to keep someone in your starting lineup than lose someone on the outside looking in....
Certainly not devastating when we have Fluery, Brook, Struble, Norlinder, Guhle coming

Boy was Fleury flying in that scrimmage. Would love to see him making this team soon. Really like his game.

Thoughts?

If Anaheim wanted him why didn't they just sign him?
If leafs claim him he has to hold a roster spot for 15 days I believe.... Who does he bump off the leafs?

I don't see the ducks taking him as they are at max cap space and only have 1 contract space left. I think the Leafs would have like to have added him but since he shunned them in favor of the Canadiens I am not positive they will take him. By signing with the Habs he basically said I don't want to play for the Leafs (not in so many words).

Juulsen was likely going on waivers whether we traded Kulak or not. It’s unfortunate, but it isn’t anything we can’t deal with. Like you said, we have a tonne of good D prospects coming up.

As for Perry, it sucks, but we’ve only had him for 2 weeks, so if we lose him it’s just like we never signed him. I just feel bad for Corey, because he was going to get a chance to play for his favourite team growing up, and now he’s going to a random team that he may not want to play for.

There’s no timeframe for how long anyone needs to be on the roster for. If they aren’t on the roster, that just means they’re on waivers again.

You said it yourself, Cale had passed Noah on the depth chart... and Juulsen was once a prospect with potential. Key word "was". He has played next to no hockey in the last 3 years, years in which are inexplicably valuable to a young D-prospect.

No I'm pretty certain you cant just claim someone on waivers than put them back on waivers or send to minors . They need to occupy a roster spot whether a scratch or playing.

nah, perry and frolik will be fine. all the gms have unwritten rules, and one of them is definitely to not claim someone that’s just signed. it’s bad for player relations cause that player wanted to be on that team. if someone claims either of them, they won’t be happy with the other team. might get claimed later in the season, but i doubt they will be sent down later

I'm not surprised to see Juulsen being claimed, although I was hoping he would make it to the AHL. Keeping Juulsen in the NHL would have been a mistake, the guy needs to play. I hope Florida puts him in the lineup and don't screw his potential by leaving him as a 7-8th dman. Maybe FLA puts him back on waiver during the year. Kulak is miles ahead of Juulsen right now. I was for trading him during the summer, but now that he's here he plays well (maybe too well for a 3rd pair but depth is good) and we have cap for him, so why trade him?

As for Perry, I was super hyped when we signed him, but I was shocked by his skating during camp. He seems to have a good attitude, which is his best quality with his play in front of the net. Even if he disappointed me, I still prefer having Perry than playing against him and he can still be a great 13-14th forward. The fact that he remained unsigned for so long may be good for us, since other teams may not have as much interest in him than we think.

Frolik I thought was doing the job nicely, and I personnaly think he is more reliable than Perry. I hope he makes it to the taxi-squad.

Having only Weal and Belzile on the taxi as forward would really annoy me.

You can place them on waivers, it just means their original team is able to claim them and send them to the AHL. Which is why no one does it, since they’re guaranteed to lose the player.

Perry won’t be claimed. He signed with Montreal at league Minimum for a reason. If his agent is worth anything, he’s called the other GMs that Perry will refuse to report if he was claimed. If other teams wanted him, they would’ve signed him.
