Grabbing a defenseman who's a defensive liability, and a well-past-their-prime winger, who is also a defensive liability could definitely change your season, but probably not in a good way.

Perry is a grit player that scores which we could use for our 4th line or at the very least scratch him and play him some games. Kling is better than any of our current options

Perry is a defensive liability? I was looking up his historical cards from HBF Analytica and during his prime, he had similar on ice impacts to Mark Stone.

I'm sorry but claiming Perry won't change your season. I was super hyped when MTL signed Perry, but I've been more than disapointed by his performance. He is probably the slowest skater in the league, and the best think he can bring is leadership. He is great in front of the net, but other than that, he's pretty old. Perry is a good 13th forward, but nothing more. I never tought I would say that, but Weal is better and cleared waivers.

Perry alone would not be a game changer. However, adding a guy like Perry to play 7-10 minutes a night on the 4th line and in role situations is exactly what teams need. He is a low risk veteran that aids bottom 6’s.

The Rangers are a young team, 2 guys that are 30 that won’t see much ice time. Perry is the experience needed if they were to make a push.

Yup, he was pretty great for the Ducks for a number of years. Unfortunately age catches up to everyone, and as you can see by the last few seasons, his possession stats are garbage.

By all means, if you think he's the difference maker that you need, take him, but IMO, having watched him as a Duck, and then in Dallas, the "grit" that you describe is more a propensity to take untimely penalties. There's a reason that there wasn't much interest in him this summer.
