If the lightning had state tax, that would’ve changed. The cap for teams with no state tax should honestly be lower compared to the ones who don’t
Are you going to raise the cap For teams that don’t have the local commercial revenue possibilities that like the Rangers leafs and the Canadians do to make that fair then. Stop crying
4 conference finals and a cup in 6 years and only one player in the top in salary impressive don’t you think
Quoting: Gmonwy
Good point
helps that the team resides in one of the lowest taxed states in the country.
assuming you are on a $9.5M contract, a player in toronto (for example), takes home about $4.45M per year, where-as a player in tampa takes home $5.78M per year. over an 8 year contract, that's like $11M dollars difference at the exact same cap hit

How much more can a player in Toronto make in endorsement than he can in Tampa

that's another thing, tampa is a small market, some guys don't want to be the face of a franchise and have their face plastered all over billboards/commercials etc.
you can make a lot of money but a lot of guys hate playing in big markets, where-as a lot of tampa players get to live with more reclusiveness, they aren't a walking icon everywhere they go

Steven Stamkos to be an example when Toronto brought in the Mayor the CEO of Canadian tire and telling him how he was gonna be the face of this in the face of that Stamkos came running home to Yzermann said give me the best contract you can and signed it for eight years before he could go free agent so we can get the eight years
But you got a find them players get lucky enough to draft them players and then get the players to want to stay where is it’s easier to entice people with large sums of money
Because most of their big players signed a while ago.
Not really it’s because their best players care more about a potential cup than getting every dime they can Hedman less than 8 Kucherov less than 10 Stamkos less than 9 Vasy less than 10 point less than 7

That is just nonsense. Point is getting 10+ on his next deal, Stamkos signed his before the market went up, as did Hedman and Kucherov. If this was the case Vasilevsky wouldn't be getting nearly as much. This is like when Avs fans say MacKinnon took less on his 2nd contract when he never had the leverage for a big deal because his first 3 seasons weren't good enough to get a huge contract.

Hedman year before Karlsson and same year as Tavares took substantially less than both.
The McKinnon contract was his second contract not his third he still isn’t eligible to be a UFA both Stamkos and headwinds contract where are you FA contracts so it isn’t even comparable
Hedman year before Karlsson same year as Tavares stop please stopThat McKinnon contract isn’t a UFA contract those Stamkos it had been contracts are UFA contracts so the comparison isn’t even close
Hedman signed his contract July 1 2016, JT 2018. So nope

State tax doesn't have as much of an impact as people think. Sure it helps but bonus money is as big of an advantage and TO uses it to the max. Tampa players may have taken slightly less but it doesn't matter they are in cap hell same as many other teams and it's entirely due to their overpriced depth players. Killorn, Palat, Johnson, Gourde etc.

What does the local revenue a company generates have to with signing players?
