A stupid 3 way trade to get PLD

Description
MIN gives up: Dumba, Eriksson Ek, Boldy, 2021 2nd
MIN gets: PLD, Roslovic
It's a high price to pay but we haven't had a true 1C in the 20 years we've been a franchise and PLD would finally fill that void. We also take a chance on Roslovic as we need right shot forwards and Roslovic wants out of Winnipeg.

WPG gives up: Ehlers, Roslovic
WPG gets: Dumba, 2021 2nd
WPG was interested in Dumba during the fall and there was also some chatter that the Jets were willing to move Ehlers (not necessarily in a Dumba deal, but in general). They get some needed help on the blue line and the ability to add to their prospect pool with the 2nd round pick. Plus they get rid of a player who doesn't want to be a part of their organization.
Source for Jets being interested in Dumba: https://theathletic.com/2072731/2020/09/16/wild-eric-staal-trade-marcus-johansson-matt-dumba-bill-guerin/?article_source=search&search_query=dumba

CBJ gives up: PLD
CBJ gets: Ehlers, Eriksson Ek, Boldy
If I'm a Jackets fan, I'd be happy with this package. Ehlers is only 24 and has multiple 20 goal, 60 point seasons under his belt. He's a winger, sure, but a very talented one and Columbus needs help up front, especially if they lose PLD. The idea is to supplement the loss of PLD's offense with Ehler's. Eriksson Ek may not be widely known among other fan-bases, but losing him really stings. He has been a poor-man's Danault for us last season and I see him as a very, very good checking 3C or a decent 2C if he needs to be. He isn't going to pop out on the score sheet, but he's incredibly tough to knock off the puck and he takes a ton of tough assignments for the Wild (he has shut out McDavid in the past and is often put against other team's top lines). I think he'd gel perfectly with Torts system and could thrive as a middle 6 center. And then they get a young up-and-coming prospect in Boldy who looked fantastic in the WJC. He hasn't even signed his ELC yet so they will get 3 years of a very talented player who also fits Torts system with his two-way game and plays a creative offensive game as well.

This is tough for Winnipeg. They'd be banking hard on Dumba rebounding in a big way.

I debated between a 1st and 2nd for that trade. Would a 1st be enough or still a no?

Such a ****ty trade for the Jets, no thanks, also Minnesota is giving up a lot here for a guy that probably has his sights set on NY or LA.

For all the Jets fans saying this is a terrible trade, Dumba for Ehlers 1 for 1 is pretty darn close. Both teams are upgrading a weakness from a position of strength, not to mention contract terms and value match. If you don’t want to give up Ehlers, that’s fine but MIN doesn’t want to give up Dumba either.

As for the trade, I think it’s short sighted for MIN and too much, especially since I’m concerned the Wild won’t be able to fit PLD’s cap hit when he needs a new deal. It’s also just way too much to give up to start with, no disrespect to PLD.

I really ****ing hate this Ehlers for Dumba trade and can't believe Dayoff even considered it for a second, losing two years of term in the deal and one of your best forwards is just ****ty asset management, erodes the quality of your top 6 big time and with a team that's SO reliant on its top 6 forwards to provide the majority of its offense removing one of your best and consistently productive forwards would create a huge hole.

Thankfully this trade hasn't happened but the rumor that Chevy even considered it is pretty scary imo.

Three years of term compared to five, no that doesn't match.

The Jets window is 3 years. Both are locked up for the foreseeable future, sure you can haggle over the extra 2 years but it’s 2 players on long term deals with identical cap hits. I say that matches.

Wasn't trying to offend anyone. Looks like the PLD to MN trade is probably dead since I doubt we gut our prospect pool for him and the only piece on our roster with value that we'd likely part with (Dumba) isn't something the Jackets need.

Agree to disagree, but then again neither of us is in a front office so we’ve got that going for us.

Honestly doesn't seem like that hard of a job, Chevy just takes a lot of Days off.. Lol

Also if it was Dumba with 5 years and Ehlers with three I'm sure you'd have a different opinion.

Likely so, but if the Wild decided to go all in for the Parise/Suter era I’d take it in a heartbeat. But to each their own.

MN shouldn't go near those trades. I like PLD but not at the cost of Dumba, JEE, and Boldy.

The title does say a stupid 3 way trade to get PLD... Like I said in the description it's a high price to pay but we've been a franchise for 20 years now and haven't ever had a long-term answer at 1C. If (when) he's traded I don't think it will be to MN anyways.

JEE and Boldy are 2 things that shouldn't be traded. Any other prospect, not named Kaprizov, I'm fine with trading. Pick's I'm fine with trading. Dumba I'm fine with trading, actually if MN did get PLD Dumba would have to be traded because of the expansion draft so they could go 7/3 and not 4/4.

Boldy, JEE, Fiala, Kaprizov are the future top-6 of the team. Add PLD to that group and it would be great. Take 2 out of that group and it's just the same team as they've been forever: 1 quality center and a bunch of meh centers.

Rossi+Marjo+Bonino+pick (retain salary as needed) is what MN should be offering CBJ. It lets CBJ compete for the Playoffs this year and gives them a shot replacing PLD if Rossi turns into anything.

I'd rather not trade any of them if possible, lol. But it's going to take quality to get quality. Can't see Columbus being all that interested in Rossi and a pick plus Bonino and MarJo. Rossi is a nice prospect but I'd imagine they want someone more proven (like an Ek) and/or a prospect further along in their development (like Boldy). I think our best bet is moving Dumba to another team and moving those assets to Columbus but not many teams need RD right now.

Well according to many talking heads Rossi is NHL ready now and he's under contract, where Boldy is still in college. Bonino covers the loss at center this year, Rossi steps in next year at center for CBJ. MarJo adds a middle-6 wing for more scoring. MN retains so it's a cap neutral move for both teams for this year. Bonino also makes up for more of the loss of PLD's scoring than JEE does (or has shown so far).

I've had MarJo ending up going to CBJ at the TDL for awhile. I also value Rossi lower than most everyone else and think he'll be a bust.
