It doesn't matter, every team is going to be risking guys on waivers, if you lose one of them you could probably claim a similar guy from some other team.

The point of signing them is to have them on the Taxi Squad. If they get claimed then the team that claims them has to have them on their squad or they will end up in Montreal. It gives us the upper hand.

For this reason but also for internal competition, which I think is great. Guys like Armia, Byron and Lehkonen will be pushed to do better. Guys with higher contracts are also more likely to end up on taxi squads so these guys will have to earn their spot.
