Contract Breakdown:
2021 - $4 M
2022- $7 M
2023- $10 M

If his next QO is $10M, I wouldn't call it that great.

Once this contract expires, he will still be an RFA, so he won’t be going anywhere unless if there’s an absurd offer sheet. Barzal can get his huge 8 year contract after this is up

Taking way too long to make the deal and in the process getting him unhappy. Yeah excellent job.

NYI has to pay him at least $10M to keep his RFA rights. That's what the QO means.

If NYI wants to ink the guy to an 8 year deal, it'll likely cost them McDavid money.

QO will be 8.4 after this contract ends.

Normally the final contract year salary is the same as QO. I dunno how they've got the QO to $8,4M but if that's the case then Lou did good job.

Edit: Apparently the new CBA touched these contracts. All RFA QOs signed after July 10th, 2020 are 120% of the latest contract's AAV. In this case adding 120% to $7M contract it would make the new QO $8,4M.

And after this contract I’d be willing bet he demands at least 11 mil for a long term deal or he signs the 1year 8.4 and say F—- You I’m gone like JT

I think this is sort of the point of contention I have on this deal, as he'll have 1 year left.
The knock has always been the system he plays it. Oh Barzal doesn't have more points because of the system. Well that system is probably costing him real $$$ at this point.
So why doesn't he want out coming into his final contract year? To a system that will help him get paid.
See this is the point of contention we are going to have. He is stuck there now... asking for a trade probably doesn't mean anything. But on a final year, then you got something.
This is why I think it should have been a 2 year deal. It gives NYI more leverage.
It is what it is, it's an OK deal. But if I'm Barzal, and I keep playing in a system that I think is holding me back. I want out before my next payday. So would you.
