I suppose if we are rolling big time, maybe going for a big gun like Hall would make some sense but I agree, I just don't see a lot of need. Injuries though could force the hand.

There were 2 ideas I looked into and kind of like

1. Arizona sends Demers and Brassard 50% retention and Toronto sends Holl and a midish pick. Not sure of the value but a 500k wing and good shutdown guy when healthy why not
2. NJ sends Ryan Murray 50% retention and Toronto sends Holl and a midish pick. Yes we got alot of LD but I was looking into copying Tampa who had 3 solid LD and okay RD besides Cernak

the NJ one is intriguing as like Tampa the leafs can lock the left side preventing easy access to the net

Bruh what... sandin and hirvonen?? Hall didn’t cost that much during the middle of the season last year, why would he cost that much at the TDL on an expiring contract. Dubas would be fired for even considering that

If you want a ppg winger with a cap hit of 4 mil then you aren't getting him for peanuts. So what if he's on an expiring deal? Teams overpay for TDL rentals every year, they will do it again. My main point is the Sabres wouldn't be interested in most of those pieces in the above trade. Sandin would be a more likely trade target as we need NHL ready LHD

I would guess Pitt, NYI, NYR, NJD, could be Boston as well with Pasta out for the start of the year then hes going to be months behind the rest of the league that is already warmed up and going

All due respect, but as good as Buffalo's start last season was, the last half of the season was just as impressively bad.

I mean if you're being optimistic about them, okay but they haven't shown they can keep it up for the entire season to make the playoffs.

Especially considering the teams they will have to beat out.

Pretty sure Pasta I back in a couple of weeks and it won't matter Boston is better, so is Pittsburgh and I think the Rangers and Islanders are likely better too.

Holl just getting disrespected. Everyone on capfriendly "The Leafs need a big right handed shutdown defenceman" Holl literally does that job very well last year. "Lets trade Holl for a lesser defenceman.". Demers would be 9th on the depth chart and Murray is left handed and not at all needed.

You are calling for moves to appease the mob who point to the 5 game sample size of Holl playing with Marincin and say that is who he is. He was very good with Muzzin, and that is beyond good enough.

Keep dreaming pal. Sabres haven’t made the playoffs in a decade. Every year sabres fans think they’re finally ready to come out of the basement yet they always underwhelm. Be Happy your Bills are as good as they are because that’s the only winning the city of Buffalo is going to see for a long time.

Sabres would gladly take that trade once they are out of the playoffs and selling at the deadline, again...

This debate is just hands down stupid. Holl costs the Leafs nothing and with Muzzin he was a very good shutdown, Big, Right Handed defenceman, who can skate very well, handle the puck, and pass well enough. At 2 million, he is also cheap. Getting Weegar will cost assets and what we would hope is he finds equal chemistry with Muzzin to be exactly what Holl is right now. So why even bother? Weegar isn't an all-star, he isn't overly big either. He's just another IT player on this site, sure he's a good hockey player but he doesn't move the needle anymore than Holl, he would be a complimentary piece, nothing more.

Weeger is a clear upgrade over Holl. You can make the argument that leafs shouldn’t spend assets to upgrade their #4D position if they don’t need to and guess what? I agree with that. But Weeger is a clear upgrade over Holl and that isn’t much of a debate. Does that mean that the leafs should pay significant assets to upgrade to him? At the moment probably not.

Yes we should use the last 10 years to determine how this one will play out, despite all of the changes, players getting older, players holding out, different coaches, etc.

Like I said; keep dreaming. A team that wasn’t top 24 in the division last year isn’t finishing top 4 in the best division in the leauge when their only notable addition was Hall, who is good but has been a shadow of his former self. And don’t bother with staal cause he’s over the hump. He’ll be a .5PPG player at best. Solid, but not helping this team much

As I said they were a playoff team till they lost their starting goalie and their only solution was their backup who had issues with his eyes. They've vastly improved since. Pitt just going to ride Crosby into the ground and back into irrelevance

Their “starting goalie” ullmark is still a backup goalie on most other NHL teams. Pit may ride Crosby into the ground (and Malkin), but they’ll still finish ahead of Buffalo. You say Pit is irrelevant meanwhile they are by far a way more successful franchise than Buffalo and it isn’t even close. Sabres are the DEFINITION of an irrelevant team AND franchise historically.

I'll play along with your situation. I'd rather keep Mittelstadt with Buffalo and instead of all those pieces coming back, I'll ask for Sandin and one of Abramov or Hirvonen. Maybe also a conditional pick based off the Leafs' performance in the playoffs. Say a 3rd that becomes a 2nd if they reach quarters, and a 1st if they reach cup finals

sandin for rental hall is a joke. Look at the last Hall trade. No prospects on Sandin's level were moved, so that's certainly not happening.

sure but Sandin + is far more than what AZ paid for Hall, which would be the benchmark for this deal

Youre under rating Ullmark. But youre biased. I also didnt say Pitt is currently irrelevant, but with out Crosby they would be, they probably wouldnt even be in Pittsburgh

Yeah I’m bias alright, says the guy who claims Buffalo is a top 4 team in that division LMAO. And LOL pit wasn’t gonna move, they wanted a new arena. A team with Two cups and having one of the best players of all time wasn’t gonna relocate

I think the difference is much smaller than people on here want to admit. Weegar isn't a world beater. He is just a good right handed 2nd pair defenceman. In no way does Weegar make much of a difference, he doesn't carry a pair and his upside is not all that high. He's a lesser Pesce, a good player but for some reason because he's right handed people think he's some sort of hero.

I mean your just completely blind to the roster over haul and are judging the current roster, that has that has swapped out 66% of its forwards over the last 2 years, on where they were in the past.

This is the same thing Buffalo fans say every year. And really do you think Pittsburgh is going to have league leading injuries again? Buffalo better hope Washington, Islanders and Boston all regress big time and the Rangers don't improve because if any of that doesn't happen you are looking like you could be 2nd last to last in the division. It's unfortunate you for stuck in the strongest division

I'd rather have Holl than Weegar, at least for this season. Weegar would mean that Dermott would get picked off in the expansion draft.
