The deal that could have been done with Dubas throwing in signing bonus money but there was no point in doing so. But man if the deal was corrects if Pit signed with the leafs he would have got 12 mill signing bonus in the first 2 years

yeah idk this team is worse. brodie doesn't bring as much offence as pietro but he's very solid defensively, is $4.4M cheaper and is signed 3 less years

that extra $3.8M can go into a great defensive 3C in kerfoot, allow us to keep a very underpaid dermott who showed flashes of being a top 4 guy etc. etc.

not putting big money into pietro was a good move imo

Well, income tax is a pretty big one. It would take 10+ just to even things out money wise.

It’s also just a better situation. Teams better, probably with a better future. Just based off the chatter you hear, it seems like vegas is a top destination for players to land. Hey, i love canada. I would love to live there, or at very least spend more time there (and i spend a lot of time there). With that said, it seems pretty obvious that people that make 8.8 million dollars a year would rather live in the states.

Based on the philosophy, are you for or against trading Marner shall TOR continue to struggle in the playoffs?

I don't disagree with the original statement or the reasoning I was just curious your thoughts.

I do live in Canada. It's a craphole in Ontario. Unless your a socialist then you might like it. But that's a whole nother debate. I would also have chose Vegas if I was Petro.

marner has 21 points in 25 playoff games, he's a defensive winger, and the last 2 years scored at a pace that placed him or would have placed him (in the 19-20 season) in the top 10 point-producers in the NHL

why does trading him help us not struggle in the playoffs lol?

the leafs needed a dependable 1B to help rielly, who can do a little of everything, they didn't need a bonified superstar RD. The leafs do however need the offence that marner brings, he's one of the best wingers in the league and he's only improving

I don't think Marner is the issue. I would trade Nylander and or JT but you can't trade JT so,

Nah i love Ontario. Not a huge fan of Quebec, but it certainly has some nice areas. Big fan of the people. The people make the place.

If you like Ontario you should try Alberta or SK. The best people you will ever find. And the Canadian Rockies are a sight to see.

I’ve been to both, and prefer to keep going to west to BC, which is my favorite area of canada.

No. But he does kill penalties and blocks shots. He is a lot more responsible defensively than people give him credit for. definitely is not a liability.

I agree with that statement. I would say taht for a first line winger (who typically tend to neglect defensive responsibility) he is quite good defensively. Saying he’s a defensive winger is absurd.

he was the teams most used penalty-killing forward by a mile, yes. also was second on the team in takeaways, has had decent defensive numbers considering the minutes he's tasked with, opposition he's faced off against and the offence he's generated

well he's obviously not going to be a selke-winning winger anytime soon, but he led the team in PK minutes, that's obviously the role that's been assigned to him, and he's done reasonably well, has he not? He plays a hell of a let better defence than some of his comparables

I mean yes he kills penalties. But I would not label a 90 point player as a defensive player. Two way maybe. But he's just as much a powerplay specialist as you are saying PK specialist. He's just good. Solid player

Marner’s $11M cap hit is the problem. Not his production. The other $11M guys aren’t being moved and you could have 2 high quality pieces for the price of Marner’s cap. That was Lyle’s point in his post, for the money that would have been given to Pietrangelo TOR has multiple quality pieces filling roles hence my question.

I’m not a TOR fan but of the big 4 only Marner makes sense to be traded if it comes to that.

I just meant that to his comparables, he's pretty decent defensively

that was especially true in 18/19, he definitely slipped and had all round down year in 19-20, partially due to injury, but he was still decent. He's also just turned 23, he has a lot of time to clean his game up

I'd say he's a first line winger whose responsible defensively. Don't think being assigned mostly Dzone starts is his primary role.

I disagree. He's hardly overpaid IMO. He is easily worth 9 and I would be fine with him at 10. So he's really only overpaid by 1-1.5 million. And the only reason it's even considered an overpay in my eyes is because the cap stayed flat. Have to remember when this deal was signed an 83.5 - 85 million cap for 2021 was assumed. I'm comfortable with Marner at his deal. He will break 100 points next full season if healthy. He's worth it.

Oh god the pig's back. I'm not here to debate politics. The country is broke and it's because of the federal election voting by the people of Ontario. No more political talk from me.
