That’s 4 rookies, a veteran 2C/3C, a goalie who’s been shaky for a few years, and only 1 good defenseman and 2 good forwards. We have the assets to become competitive this year but we shouldn’t use them, wait 2 years for Sanderson and JBD to step in as elite shutdown guys and another high pick to help the forward group.

7-Crabs... I mean nabs... I mean Habs

Pretty much honestly. Tkachuk and Dadonov are legitimate top line wingers, but don’t have a top line centre to make it a threat. We then have 6-8 guys you could call middle six calibre right now to avoid 2nd/3rd line semantics, but most of them are either guys you’d prefer on the 3rd line or young guys who haven’t proven anything yet. Plus a pretty effective 4th line. Not bad, should be energetic and physical, but there’s a distinct lack of dynamic, high-end skill at the moment. On D we have Chabot (obviously an elite 1D) and a bunch of 3rd pair veterans, plus a couple young guys with upside, it’s pretty bleak.

Canadian teams must be bad if this is the 2nd best team.

If Murray can return to form....I'll go as far as saying OTT might not finish last in the division....other than that, defense will be a major issue. Apart from Chabot (legit #1D), the rest are basically 3rd pairing guys (Gudbranson, Zaitsev, Coburn) or 7th D / fringe NHLers (Reilly, Brown, Wolanin, Lajoie) on almost any other team.

Offensively I can see them doing some damage if the kids continue to improve and vets like Stepan can get back to his NYR days.

So who knows, OTT could become a cool Cinderella story
