IMO Lindholm is not under-rated. He seems to be the favorite player on the Calgary flames subreddit

Every time I see people posts these lists, I am reminded that I have no idea what the words 'overrated' and 'underrated' are actually supposed to mean.

Wilson might be on the raise to overrated.... he was criminally underrated on this site for awhile but now you see him being traded for Nylander + 1st round picks and you gotta assume hes overrated. i vote for Orlov and this figuratively kills me to say bc i love Wilson . went from a overpaid 4th liners to overrated.... thats the dream

its subjective .... i saw a post where a guy said Hedman and Crosby were underrated

i personally overrate him.... i love his game and would give up a lot to obtain him

It's based on a matter of opinion. Comparing one's opinion to the most common. would it make more sense if i dumbed it down and said "Players who I think are better than most other people think they are"?

IMO Crosby is now underrated because most people don't include him in the leagues best player discussions. And he's still top 5 for sure. Top 3 arguably, in my opinion.

What would you give up for him?

Couldn't agree more with the Leaf's selection. People have pushed the "Toronto media overrates their own players" onto him to the absolute extreme and they discredit his two way game and his playoff production. They don't like that he doesn't use that big frame to hit (he actually started to in the back half of last season) but he defends with smart positioning and stick skills.

And yes to an extent TSN and Sportsnet can overhype Leafs. But Matthews deserves the attention that he gets.

I guess so. Anytime I hear those words, my first inclination is to ask "compared to what". It's helpful to know you're comparing to most people, but even that is way too vague. Most experts? former players? data analysts?

For example, most people I know think that Connor is overrated. You say he's underrated. It's not a productive way to discuss players IMO. The discussion should be around if his flashy offense outweighs his lack of defense. Not trying to gatekeep and I know it's a boring time for hockey so I'm not trying to attack anyone. Just under/overrated is a big pet peeve of mine. Carry on.

lol I can tell you don't like it. By discussion I mean this exactly. So you don't think Connor is underrated and I do. Here's why, nobody ever talks about, media, twitter folk, etc. And I think he is a fantastic player. He is fun to watch, tons of skill, plays hard and fast. I think he deserves more credit than he gets. That's why I put him here.

There's only like 4 players on the Oilers who are any good so it was a tough choice. I picked him because some people still believe he only gets points because of Mcdavid.

Fair enough. He is an interesting case. If he could find a way to be more responsible on the defensive side of the puck, he could be a top 20 winger. His hands in tight and his stickhandling through traffic are insanely good. But I've seen him stuck in no-man's land way too many times when he's without the puck. I don't know why Maurice has him attached to Scheifele tbh; I think playing him with Stastny and Ehlers would make more sense. Ehlers can drive the play, Stastny is a smart passer and apt defensively, and Connor would do what he does, score the goals.

i see people comparing him to Mcdavid ... people arent overrating him anymore which isnt the same as being underrated. LMK when people rate him outside the top 10 players in the NHL and ill jump on that narrative.Malkin is 100x more underrated

Im starting to realize a lot of the time underrated players get shoved down peoples throats so much to the point where they're overrated. Just fans thinking theyre smarter than everyone else lol

It works in reverse too. Some players are called overrated so often that they are underrated.

I think Arvidsson is a good choice -- can't go wrong with Ekholm or Saros either.

For Nashville I think it's either Ekholm or Ellis. Probably Ekholm

I think after this year Draisaitl is getting the spotlight he deserves so I'd have Nugent Hopkins as my pick. He's underrated imo

Where they are in their careers now I would take Barkov over Matthews Eichel Peterson probably Crosby to at this point in his career
