I think 5.4 right now might be a little steep, but I think this will be worth it, as Bjorkstrand has proven to be a solid 20 goal scorer, definitely think he one day will be a 30 goal scorer.

With what cap are capitals going to pay him 6M next year??? Am leaning towards 2x 4-4.5M Still rfa after deal, and perhaps in two years they can afford to give him smt like 6x7M if production has stayed good.

he took a bridge deal already i bet he gets 5.5 mx 5years something like that

Lot of people knocking this, but Jake Guentzel was a 48 point player the year before he got his pay day.
This deal is 2 years later and a bit less. I think it's a solid deal. The hope is he can explode for more, He's only 25 this year. Has shown good trajectory.

he was a freak in the playoffs though... Guentzel was undoubtedly going to be a star in Pittsburgh

It’s already been said that PLD wanting out isn’t because of Tortorella, it’s because he wants to play in a bigger market.

If that's true, then he truly is more of an imbecile than I thought. It's not as if your brand or salary is going to be affected in any possible way by playing in a smaller or larger market.

I will give you that he did have great playoffs.
But the point is if you look at it, he had 23 goals in 77 two years ago. Last year he had 21 in 49 games.
I mean, the guy looks like he's gonna be at least a 30 goal scorer right? Maybe more? Is a 30 goal scorer worth 5.4 million, yeah he is. Especially when he's not like a Hoffman or what have you who doesn't play defense. He's got a complete game.

he looks like a responsible 2 way forward that can score goals. Other side of the coin is they dont sign him or lowball him and cause an issue that doesnt exist with him. He's arguably their best winger why not lock him up for 5 years. Not like they gave him 11 million right lol

Well perhaps they buy out Panik or smt.
If I was Vrana I wouldn't close out another 2 year bridge with +4M. Covid-cap is going to affect all longer deals atleast this summer still. He would most likely be better off making the longer deal in a couple of years. (Depending somewhat how ridiccilous is Ovi's next deal)

It's a good idea for CBJ if he continues to be a 60 point player like he was last season (pro rated). Now if reverts to his previous 40 point season, not a good deal for CBJ. Bjorkstrand's view...in these crazy Covid and flat cap league....guaranteed 27m, yeah take it for sure.

i assume Washington pays Seattle to select Oshie which frees up a ton of cap

Dubas would have given him $8 million

Nah that's lous thing as he likes overpaying all types of players

The fact you said Dubas would pay him more than Nylander is facepalm worthy

Man bob and panarin said the same thing. It's just sad columbus be losing star players due to
marketing

Good contract, very underrated player

Seems a bit much for a 36 point player but he took more term so meh it kind of works. 4.5x4 would have been better

He hasn't earned this contract, but I think he'll live up to it and it could possibly be a steal. I think it would have been smarter to wait until after next season.

$5,400,000 x 5 years = Bjorkstrand at 25 (career 43 points per 82 games)

$3,400,000 x 4 years = Johnsson at 24 (career 46 points per 82 games) = Dubas did better
$6,900,000 x 6 years = Nylander at 22 (career 62 points per 82 games) = Dubas did better
$3,200,000 x 3 years = Kapanen at 22 (career 38 points per 82 games) = Dubas did better

This about it for Dubas career comparables.

Unless you want to compare Bjorkstrand to guys signing after 90+ point per 82 game seasons?

More like $8'139'340 . Dubas likes his odd numbers.

It's because Columbus has loads of cap space to do it, and so did Montreal (at the time).

Yeah but thats a good way to end up without cap space. Don't burn it.

My issue with this contract is I don't see it being a big win and unless you think Bjorkstrom is likely to get 30+ goals or 70+ points this year, I wouldn't have signed him for this now. He is not a free agent for a year, so the only real reason to sign now is if you think you are getting a better deal now then you will in a year.

I don't know him all that well, but at best this is a fair contract for a good but not special top 6 winger. For this to be a good-great contract he needs to be an inarguable first line winger. But there is down side, if he continues to be a good but not special winger, he'll be like Toffoli who just signed for 4x4. It doesn't appear terrible, but it seems, unnecessary and more risk than reward.

Not bad considering their cap space but 5.4 mil is a lot for a guy that hasn't eclipsed 40 points yet.

This is a good deal for a potentially great player. He is a natural goal scorer.
