I like Peterka a lot, but come on now. For that price you better be getting an established young star. Peterka is not more valuable than a prospect like Norris who has already shown the ability to Dominate at a higher level than Peterka has.

Just because he was better than Jarventie riding shotgun to an MVP candidate doesn’t mean he’s worth multiple first rounders with years of development who are close to NHL ready

I’d hope so considering your comparing a D+1 to D+3.

My point is that Peterka hasn't been so incredible that he's more valuable than an NHL ready C who has shown the ability to dominate at the AHL level. I know he had a great tournament and all, but let's pump the breaks until he shows what he can do in a real league.

I know Sens has been able to find steals but this recent draft is so confusing.
- Why draft Jake Sanderson even though they don't want to play Brannstrom on his preferred RHD side? If they wanted to play Brannstrom on the LHD, then what's the point of drafting Sanderson just to have him in the bottom pairing.

- Passed on JJ Peterka not once but twice knowing he already had pre-established chemistry with Stuetzle before 2021 WJC.

- Traded up to draft Tyler Kleven who is the D partner of Sanderson and was drafted higher than projected. (This point makes passing Peterka even more confusing)

I get that and I personally value Norris more. I’m merely stating your comment should be a given based on the age difference.

I mean sure, but it should also be a given that trading 5 quality assets for one prospect is a bad idea, especially when the pieces are mostly comparable (or even higher) in value to Peterka himself.

I have to agree with this, partially. They had all night to think over who to take at 33rd, and Peterka should have been at the very top of the list.

Like I said, I value Norris more than JJP and was merely stating your comparison is odd given the age difference. The value is completely in Buffalo’s favor no one is debating that.

Yeah at the time I would've taken Peterka or Gunler, and while I was impressed with Jarventie's start in the Finnish league, I think he still has more flaws than those two, both of whom were great at the world juniors (4 goals and 10 points for Peterka, 4 goals and 5 points for Gunler, vs. nothing for Jarventie). I also think RW is more of a positional need for the Sens than LW so it's quite confusing why they took Jarventie when there were several legitimately good RW options available (and even though they like this drafting friends bs, Peterka's got chemistry with Stuetzle, who is more likely to make the team long term than Thomson anyway).
