DÉTAILS DE LA CLAUSE: Le joueur soumet une liste de 8 équipes où il refuse d'être échangé.
Bit risky doing this a year early, but Marino is a very good young dman and this is a good contract for them.
Well done JR. You've had a rough off season but this is a legitimately good move.
This is risky... It could end up as a huge steal, but remeber Zaitsev, right? He had great rookie season and regressed badly after that...
The analytics never were that favorable to Zaitsev even during his rookie season. It's quite a different picture with Marino, who actually played like a true top-pairing guy at times this past season. This is way more like Slavin/Pesce than Zaitsev.

I mean. Zaitsev's rookie season was replacement level 5v5 and was propped up by PP usage. Marino in the other hand has been stellar at 5v5 (and significantly better than Z even in his best season).
While regression is very possible here, he has a long ways to go before this looks like a bad contract. I like the bet.
Good value deal for a budding top-4 guy. This has some Slavin/Pesce potential to be one of the biggest contract steals in a few years.

If Marino keeps developing, this contract will be a huge steal.
Once in a while JR can surprise us positively.
This is an incredible contract!
Early estimates were around 5 1/2-6 M.
Marino was in the 90th percentile in EV defence this year and I think he has more offence to give!
He’s amazing!
Thanks, Edmonton!!!

Who was predicting 6mil? for a guy with less than a full season under his belt, considering his short track record and the flat cap issue on a team near the limit- this is an overpay! He may turn into the next Slavin or Pesce- but they had longer track records and werent signing on a cap strapped team during a pandemic. A risky move (and unnecessary) at this time.
This doesn't walk him straight to UFA. It buys out 3 UFA seasons.
Yeah people don't know what they are talking about! What's next a team will sign a UFA and they will say that the deal is walking the player to free agency lol
