Canucks come back with a better D core than last year. One of the better ones in the North division after signing vatanen.

Canucks top line is also one of the best in the division. The second line is average but it depends how much Virtanen progresses, can he add consistency as he was on a 25 goal pace last season playing mostly third line.

3rd line is similar to last season however Id argue a little better. Macewen is a bigger version of Roussel that can put up more points and hoglander is a good luck carrier.

Fourth line is a shutdown line that was pretty awesome in the playoffs. Its speedy and has 2 really great face off centerman. Motte is the energy on that line tho.

Goaltending would be the biggest question mark for me. Can Demko play as well as he did in the playoffs and can holtby revive his game?

The top thing that comes to mind when looking at every teams D core in the North division is how bad some of them are.

Winnipeg, edmonton, Ottawa, and Montreal's D core aren't very good. Although only Winnipeg and Montreal have solid goaltending. Edmonton and Ottawa will have to outscore their problems, which only seems reasonable for Edmonton with their two stars.

Toronto Calgary Vancouver (with the vatanen signing) would all have good D cores. Toronto has great offensive potential. Calgary offense is a question mark at best, can Gaudreau and Monahan wake up or is this team going to be middle of the pack because they can't score. Vancouver will rely on the lotto line and bo horvat to take steps.

Toronto good

Canadiens mediocre
Canucks good
Winnipeg bad

Goaltending:
Toronto mediocre
Ottawa mediocre
Calgary good
Edmonton bad
Canadiens good
Canucks mediocre (potential to be good)
Winnipeg good

Standings should be:
Toronto, Canadiens, Calgary, Canucks, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Ottawa

Tier 1: Toronto Montreal
Tier 2: Calgary canucks Edmonton Winnipeg
Tier 3: Ottawa
