Agreed. Was more thinking a roster player with potential to be their equivalent in the future. Short term vs long term gain. Example cup contender takes Byron or Armia for serviceable prospect that will be equivalent in a few years.

So many teams are near the cap, they can't make trades without sending cap back in a trade. Plus there are UFAs still be signed that are better and could come cheap than the players you want to get rid.

Could have traded for Killorn instead of Anderson.

Trade Byron and a 2nd + 3rd to Nashville for Grimaldi.

Kucherov's surgery was unnecessary for 3 months since then.
Kucherov's injury became necessary on december 23th, two days after the new season announcement.

I have a guy feeling GMs will let vets (like Perry) slide though to the taxi squad instead of claiming them, similar to the no OS agreements they seem to have.

Yeah TB aren't the only ones employing this strategy.

There were others announced since the announcement of the restart. IMO it should be considered cap circumvention as they could have had the surgery and be almost healed by now. They probably need surgery but dollars to doughnut says they knew at the end of the playoffs they needed surgery but put it off because they also feel like they can go 1-2 months without those players and still be in the playoff picture. So they will build daily cap space and still be a playoff team at the end of the season. It's like aquiring a player who's career is over and placing them on LTIR to allow your team to go over the cap. IMO a player who is on the IR should not be tradable until he plays a game. That will put a stop to the cap circumvention and even the playing field as the cap was intended.

Nobody is thinking Byron should be in the lineup? My preference is Byron is in along with Armia. Frolik and Perry extras.

The lesser of Kulak and Romonov is on the taxi squad. Do you risk losing Kulak on waivers if Romanov outplays him early or try and trade him for an asset

Byron and Armia are more valuable than Kulak.
