David Poille is desperate to win a cup in his lifetime (he's 70).
Preds have cap space.
Sure the roster may not look like a legit contender, but adding Kane as I've suggested in the past makes them a much better team for scoring which is something they've lacked for whatever reason.
So I say move him there in a deal like this:
Patrick Kane
Malcom Subban
2021 6th round pick (CHI)
Philip Tomasino
Calle Jarnkrok
Juuse Saros
2021 1st round pick (NSH)
2022 3rd round pick (NSH) - becomes a 2022 1st if Nashville wins the cup in either playoffs before then.
I'll take a lot of flack for this (any Kane deal does) but remember a few things:
1. very few contending teams have the space to take on Kane which limits the market for him
2. Chicago didn't have to retain any of Kane's cap hit in the deal. If they were to retain, they could get more but I don't think Kane is the guy to retain on. Toews is if they move him.
3. Chicago gets a B+/A- prospect, a young starting goalie who's an upgrade over their horrid tandem now, plus multiple picks
4. This still leaves Nashville with about $2.5M in cap space (depending on Kunin signing) with a full roster
5. The deal is compared to the Phil Kessel trade from Toronto to Pitsburgh. Both Toronto and Chicago were in a rebuild with a highly paid winger to be moved. Chicago gets more in this deal actually cause they get virtually 4 guaranteed NHLers and $10.5M in cap space without retaining (Toronto retained on Kessel)
I don't see them getting more than this for Kane, as good as some people argue he is. That's not the only thing that determines a player's value.
