Ethan Bear a signé un contrat de 2 ans d'une valeur de 4 000 000 $ avec les Oilers d'Edmonton, le 29 déc. 2020. Le contrat comporte un cap hit de 2 000 000 $.
Was pretty convinced the stalemate would result in a 1 year deal around 1 mil, and he would go on to make us pay him 4 mil plus starting next season. This sets the Oil up really well for the 2021-2022 (hopefully full length) season, and is still very workable this year without dumping anyone. Having him and Jones at 2.85 mil combined for the next two seasons, plus Bouchard and Broberg ready to each come in on ELC's and likely contribute at some point in the next two seasons is clutch for this cap world.
It's a good deal for the oil, particularly the length.
I like to judge deals by their downside. Does anyone think he ISN'T at least a bottom pairing defenseman in the NHL? 2 mil for a 3rd pairing defenseman isn't terrible. There's a good chance he's a second pairing defenseman and 2 mil is great there.
Good deal as this covers both flat years (and hopefully there aren't more or they make changes in the he cba to accomodate)

He played 1st pairing all year in his rookie season. He's top-4 for sure - no chance he plays bottom pairing going forward, even with Edmonton's depth on the right side (Larsson, Barrie, Bouchard).
Yeah that was great especially because he provides something the Oilers don't have, defense.
I personally dont understand all the crap Doughty keeps getting. He got 35 points in a shortened season last season. He has never been a "profilic offensive defenseman". And to be honest: bloody superman couldnt have carried the Kings last year.
I would still take Doughy over Karlsson or Burns each day of the week.
Sure the numbers are hefty, but that 11M was about right in that year for him and his contribution. Who honestly thinks ANY of those 11M contracts are gonna look good on the last couple of years??? (McDavid perhaps excluded)
Finally, the most overrated defenseman in the NHL has been signed.
the guy was a 5th round pick had more Calder votes then Jack Hughes has a awesome name and has been a role model to many First Nations kids in Alberta, he isn't overrated people just like him

Which is why I love having Hedman on a club friendly contract

An rfa signed for 11 million that ends before 30 should look good the whole time if they were good enough for it at the beginning. Signing a 29-31 year old at an amount they deserve at 29-31 for term is most likely going to look terrible by the end

He's 4 years older than Jack Hughes, lol. He has a better name though. No doubt about that!
Ah yes, all 11 million of it for 7 more seasons. That should go well.
There isn't a team in the NHL that is in better shape long term cap-wise than the Kings, the 11M won't be an issue. I appreciate your concern. None of us Kings fans are worried about that

Yeah here's the thing, with the emergence of Byfield, Vilardi, Turcotte, Kaliyev the Kings will have more offense than they've ever had since the Gretzky days. Doughty will put up more points than he has before. When the Kings were good, they played a very defensive system under Darryl Sutter.
Before Sutter, Doughty put up 59 points in his 2nd NHL season. After Sutter, Doughty got 60 points. All while maintaining great defense. He should have won the Norris both those years.

It doesn't matter, most older players paid a huge amount of money are injury prone. Doughty is never injured and has accomplished more than any of them.
