Thornton is still a ppg player, he was awesome for Davos.

A valid comment......The anwser is Thornton thinks the game better and faster and knows how to move the puck via elite passing.........which more than makes up for his slower foot speed........his size is also a tremendous asset as well in protecting the puck while cycling in the corners.

I also heard the praise he was getting from the Davos GM.........impressive point production while playing on the big ice in Europe........I think he is really motivated to come back to Toronto and show the hockey world that he still has a lot of gas still in the tank.....the fact that he even went to play in Europe in the first place shows he wants to be a difference maker back in the NHL this year.

I agree with your cycle down low, puck protection and passing skills comment. plus Marner seemed more comfortable playing with J.T. , Mitch seemed too concerned with helping Matthews win the Rocket trophy than playing good hockey.

I actually like the idea of Thornton and AM but I don`t know if Thornton can skate top line minutes anymore. He may be suited better as PP specialist and 9-10 mins a night.

Leafs put Matthews on the ice and create a dominant line.
