I’ve always wanted the league to get less watered down and be outrageously competitive. My ideal NHL would be 16 teams of stars. But if that were to happen, what 16 teams would stay as NHL franchises? It’s very hard.
Logically I have broken it down to the 16 teams I think would stay:
1) Original 6 - no one makes money for the league like these 6. Except Detroit. But they will get back there one day.
2) The first expansion (RIP Oakland Seals, and technically Minnesota North Stars). These 4 teams are competitive regularly and have a great hockey following every where you go.
3) Solid 4. Islanders - the dynasty created a lasting impression in the jockey world. Avalanche - the dead puck era dominance sparked so many new hockey players. Vancouver - with the name of “the Canucks” they get global recognition, and they have a pretty rabid following. Oilers - dynasty, and let’s face it, someone will kill me if I don’t put them on here.
4) wildcard teams - Vegas. We’ve never witnessed expansion in the likes of Vegas. I honestly cannot see this franchise falling apart. Nashville - go to a Nashville game. You will understand why they made it here.
5) honourable mentions are under goaltending.
My 16:Boston, Calgary, Chicago, Detroit, Edmonton, Los Angeles, Minnesota, Montreal, New York rangers, Ottawa, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, St. Louis, Toronto, Vancouver, Vegas, Winnipeg ,

Solid! I debated Minnesota over and over again. Ottawa I struggle with just because of the small market.

With the new owners of Tampa Bay come down to a game . Best run organization in sports the last 10 years

Every home game the pick someone in the community who does good and donates 50k to the charity of there choice
I can’t disagree with you here.
Every night they pick community hero and donate 50 K to the charity of that person’s choice for whatever cause it is that they work at volunteer is a better way to put it

Which is one reason why people take less money to play here
He’ll eventually sell, hard for me to give up any Canadian teams[/quote
What’s the new owners will be ****ing the same thing people weren’t showing up when they were good senators products the state of Florida has 23,000,000 people in it. Tampa Bay Area about 4mil how many people in Ottawa? Amalie Arena has almost 300 Straight sell outs how many does Canadian tire center have
Look if you’re upset I cut Tampa that’s fine but population is meaningless. Compare Winnipeg population to Phoenix , or $10 for a ticket and hot dog panthers and see jets are far more successful in fan base.

One of those has to be over Ottawa since 92-93?Tampa Bay has won more Stanley Cups Than Canada has
Islanders dont make a ton of sense. Constantly toward the bottom end in attendance while playing in one of the biggest markets. They are a waste of a franchise spot in a 16 team league thanks to their proximity to the Rangers.

Definitely a fringe one for me. They are 16th most profitable franchise. I just feel like they’re starting to turn it around. And plus this history.
