Name another Canadian team close to a contending >? And do not mention the MakeYa Laughs.

Every Canadian team is closer to contending than Ottawa ....

players who have struggles on other teams have sometimes shown better success with the Sens. Would not be surprised if he reaches 20 goals with them before the deadline. As for retention because its for a few months they wont care cause its the picks they are after.

Sorry I meant he’ll still cost a contender 3m which isn’t a cheap contract to pick up at TDL for teams near the cap who want upgrades. Detroit and other teams have some nice contract that will be trade able at TDL for cheap cap hits and this is a 3m cap hit.

Great trade right now for Arizona, but Ottawa has the upside. If Stepan flourishes between Tkachuk and Dadanov, and remember this is a contract year for him, so there's a little extra incentive to give 110%, Dorian will be laughing all the way to the bank, er, draft.

It definitely could be a good deal for the Senators, but I don’t understand why they’re paying a 2nd for a rental that the other team wants to get rid of. The price should go down because of Stepan’s worth to the Yotes, and I don’t know why Ottawa is trading for 30 year olds on one year deals that aren’t likely to return.

I’m just glad Ottawa helped out Arizona, and not a team like Tampa Bay or Vegas. The Coyotes need all the help they can get.

Who voted that Ottawa won this trade?

Arizona gets totally out of cap trouble and gets a 2nd out of it.
Ottawa manages to get $6.5M cap hot for only $2M in actual $, but also gave up a 2nd.

Clear Arizona home run.

I see Dorion has come back down to Earth after his great off-season lol. This is a head scratcher

EDIT: I take back what I said after seeing the following trade where he got a 2nd back. Well done.

Soderberg (way more productive) just signed for only $1M and it didn't cost Stan Bowman any draft picks, lol. This deal is lunacy.

Yeah this is the issue with this deal for me. There was better players in Free Agency. Duclair, Granlund, Haula, even Soderberg would be basically as good or even better, cheaper AAV, and you don't have to give up a pick. Even betting on a bounce back year from AA would be smarter. And depth is not Ottawa's problem anyways. They need more top end talent. The best way to get that is through the draft, the more darts you throw the more likely one sticks.

I really liked the rebuild until they basically undid half their progress this offseason. They need to understand they aren't contenders yet.

Sens are the best Canadian NHL team. They will bring the Cup back to Canada.

Do something like the Habs did twice last year, trade (Scandella) or sign (Kolvie) a player than trade him again for a net profit.

You think he's getting a 1st?
To get a net profit would be getting him for a 4th. Or signing Duclair/Granlund/Haula/Soderberg instead.

I read that as: "Dubas is a genius, but he made a very bad trade"

Dubas is not a genius nor has he done anything to warrant such a title. Just because the Leafs seem to be "the center of the universe" doesn't mean they set the tone for anything and teams have to follow suit. Do you see every teams best players charging their teams 11M+ on short term contracts that send them to free agency? Dubai has done nothing but bad trades and bad signing since he's been there with the exception of the Muzzin trade.

Marleau was playing with good linemates and also happened to be 39, do you know how old Steppan is?

Arizona is not in as bad of a cap situation compared to Toronto at the time.

Sorry my sarcasm didn't show all the way thru with that comment, I agree Dubas has been a rookie GM mistake machine.

Habs by a fair marging over Laugh and Sin ... why would you dream of a cup while your team might work in only 5 yrs .... need a Kleenex for such faping?

Name the Habs last point per game, generational player. I'm guessing the 1970's Guy.

Maybe the Jets, for they were the only Canadian team to get past the 2nd Rd in the past decade.

Trade bait worth if he plays like a 2nd line center again could fetch 2nd and 3rd or 4th Rder's in return, obviously not a 1st but a combination of two picks or one pick and a prospect.

The last 2 Cups the Habs won were all on the shoulder of 1 player, named Roy, probably explains why they named Price their franchise player, reality check, Price is no Roy.

The Leafs have been sending more players to the HOF in the last 3 decades compared to the Habs.

I liked this comment because it's mostly correct. Arizona wasn't in cap trouble because of the Hossa to LTIR, but beyond that, it's pretty much spot on.

Arizona wins, Ottawa might win and make it a good trade for both. The best part of the comment was, Stepan is a minute eater. Stepan can take a load off younger players when the going gets tough, those really bad lopsided losses. Stepan, and the other older vets will take on the brunt of the work in those games.

I'm not saying I like the trade, just that I'm okay with it, with guarded optimism.

That's cool, doesn't mean anything to me

Maybe that's why they can't win anything. Too focused on individuals than the team.

And the Habs are too focus on francophones, it's a shame the Q doesn't produce superstars anymore.
