Cape wise, you’re not getting rid of Gardiner for free, he’s a negative value contract. Then i think you would be quite lucky to get both Hamilton and svechnikov to those deals.
I’ll agree on Svechnikov; I don’t see him agreeing to $8M per year now, which likely led to talk that he and the team are looking at a bridge-type deal, a la Laine.
On Hamilton, if he wants much more than $8.25M AAV, he probably won’t be in Raleigh much longer. That’s about as high as I’d be willing to go for him. He’s a great defenseman, but I don’t think he gets much more than $8M, from any team, in a flat cap world.
Gardiner likely does cost asset(s) to move, unless you deal bad contract for bad contract. Having Gardiner on the 3rd pair is not the worst thing in the world. The only bad thing about that is his salary. He and Fleury play quite well together, and in my view, form one of the better 3rd pairings in the league. From a Canes perspective, you just have to hope he rebounds to a 30pt guy who might not look completely out of place on a weaker team’s 2nd pair. If comes close to the player he was in TOR, $4.05M is a bargain for him. Just have to hold out hope he regains form and look for a trade mid-season or payoff Francis to take him.
