Roland McKeown a signé un contrat de 1 ans d'une valeur de 700 000 $ avec les Hurricanes de la Caroline, le 18 déc. 2020. Le contrat comporte un cap hit de 700 000 $.
This kid should honestly be in the NHL fulltime. He would be a solid 3rd pairing defender with the potential to go top 4 with a veteran Dman to mentor him. To bad Carolina has to many dman otherwise he would make the team.

I don't think teams really try holding guys back. If they know they don't have a path for them they move them forward. No one wants to be known as the GM who held guys back. So if he had that much potential I think they'd have moved him by now. Teams don't really "worry" about losing assets when they know they don't have a plan for a guy and they think he deserves a better shot than they can offer them.
McKeown's a good AHL guy. They actually loaned him to the SHL to continue his development before the AHL season starts (if it does), so it seems like they want to keep him. They apparently thought highly enough of him to both give him a QO and a $100K AHL salary, so...

If he has been NHL capable, surely he would have picked up on waivers....but he hasn't.
